my eclipse is in a project state, and i was wondering out of personal opinion im wondering what all the 420a boys out there what would be best for head mods, bolt on mods, block mods, suspension, exhaust and etc just let me know it would be helpful thank you :D

well are you going turbo or not and what is your budget? if your not going turbo then high compression pistons, underdrive pulley, upgraded oil pump, oversized valves, big camshafts, ported head work, header plus exhaust, bigger throttle body, afx ecu to controll all your mods, adjustable cam gears, poly urathane motor mounts, upgraded clutch, you can keep your stock intake manifold or go aftermarket but either way port match it to the head and theres alot of suspension companies to go with just get a good set of coilovers. if your going turbo you can do all of this stuff but just lower your compression and different tuning method.

Without turbo or nitrous you won't make more than like 220WHP

More like 150-160 hp if that LOL! If I were you, I would just get bolt ons (CAI, header, exhaust, and etc) then if you feel ambitious and want power on a cheaper budget then all motor, start saving up to build your block!

How far you go is up to you! But going turbo would be the best bang for your buck!

Oh yeah, as to what you would need for turbo, well some have done it on a stock block! Most will say build your block with low compression pistons and rods and you be pretty good to go from there! But if your stock motor is well maintained and has good compression, more then enough have been running turbos (on 8 psi) and have no issues what so ever!

Well considering your goals in mind I would just stay NA. Simple bolt ons, header, catback, intake, cams, etc... You can find all that for relatively cheap. Next, coilovers and brakes. That should keep you happy for awhile. In the mean time buy another spare motor and build it from the ground up for boost. :thumb:

i originally had planned to build a seperate block for turbo with flat top pistons, polished crank, etc and add the most bolt on powers as i can. i already have a Megan racing 4-1 Header with full HKS catback exhaust, AEM cold air intake, MSD Ignition Coil, MSD Super Conductor Spark Plugs, and NGK Iridium Laser Series in it and it runs great. I personally like the 420A more to the 4G63T nothing bad about the 4G63T just i like challenges and most ppl say no matter what you do to a 420A you cant get past 400WHP on the 420A motor, which no offense i believe thats a lie i just believe thats the 4G63T freaks preferring their motors to the 420A. its like the 305 small block chevy vs the 350 4 bolt main in my opinion. Its getting kinda hard finding a turbo exhaust manifold where i live for the 420A tho along with the T-25. im getting ready to port a head ive got (spare) for the new block rebuild, and also give it a 5 angle valve job. any other ideas? or is that a good start?

but wouldnt a 4G63T turbo stock exhaust fit? i dont know thats why im asking dont think ill of me x.x

Hahn racecraft s16g... :D! Megan full three inch, any form of megasquirt for the 420, you probably wont need headstuds if your not boosting, get cold air intake, if you don't want to do turbo you could shoot some nos in it once it gets to a certain rpm. I think that would be pretty sweet.

Don't lower your car too much, i did on my 98 and it feels like my ass is dragging the ground. LOL.

LOL thanks but i am planning to turbo it. no NOS tho, it would be my luck to look like the fast and the furious with that shit haha and i dont believe in NOS for street applications, its just me, in the street app it just looks like they're afraid that their car wont do what it needs, i was raised NOS is for the strip thats it LOLz. ima do alot of work to the girl the 420a shall prevall eventually :p

grothe3297venge you have no clue what your talking about and im surprised since you have the same motor in your car. the record for the most hp in a 420a n/a is about 225hp, look up bulletdsm on this site if you dont believe it. and the last time i checked the record on the 420a turbo car was at 707hp look it up on youtube.

GSdangerx- thats a good start for your build. you need a solid bottom end, good camshafts, good turbo and most of all a really good tune for whatever you end up doing. you can make 400hp it just depends on what turbo you decide to run at what compression. i have seen a few guys run 10.5 on a turbo. i would just go stock compression tho. get good head bolts and studs. also upgrade the oil pump and find a reputable machine shop that knows something about turbo motors.

Well here is a thought you dont have to use low compression pistons for a turbo set up you can do what im working on with my 420a and go with 10.5:1 pistons and turbo the car. With that being done you can keep your boost low say around 8-12 psi and still beat out other turbo cars with low comp pistons running 15-20 psi

thanks guys i really appreciate it, i was gonna do the low compression, i get dogged on the eclipse right now because of its color and because its also a 420a. i know alot of the people out there prefer the 4g63t. its getting ready to go into the body shop and get painted and im putting a eibach suspension underneath it, its lowered as much as it will be and on the second block i begin to build im thinking of boring it 30 over, that also a good idea?

LOL no offense but your car already looks like it came straight out of the original fast & furious. You're going to be spending a TON of money making a reliable turbo setup out of that car whereas if you were to buy the 4G63 model, it would take significantly less. I'd keep it as a daily, save your money for a turbo car. My 2 cents.

P.S. I was in the same position as you when I owned a 420a Avenger, and trust me, it's not worth it. I know I'll get hate for what I'm saying but the truth hurts.

man no worries i understand where your coming from i dont like the easy way out tho. this will be my car that ima take pride in so its worth it to me, its my sweat and blood so ill be happy with the outcome either way. but i will make it as evil as i can

yup i think the same way. i know its more effort and money but the challenge and experience was awesome to me. it took me 3 years to finally complete my build since i didnt have the money all upfront but the outcome i was happy with. just keep doing your homework on the build and double reference everything your not sure of. this site taught me alot from just reading. i order alot of my parts from cimotorsports.net and some of the others were howellautomotive.com, horsepowerfreaks.com and rpmmachine.com. dont take the cheap way or cut corners. it will all come together eventually!
