Hi guys, just a noob question. My AC compressor is making loud noise so I've decided to bypass it using a shorter belt. If i do that, can I just leave the ac compressor there and not run the belt thru it? Or do I need to take it off? Thanks guys..

If I bypass the ac compressor, will the ac fan still work.?

the fan only turns on if your A/C is on.
if you're not using A/C, then you don't need the other fan.

you can just bypass the compressor with the belt. it won't hurt anything.

You can leave it on if u can get the belt on but do u know the size of the belt? Trial and error is a waste of time plus its kind of hot out lately :D I have a spare compressor out of a parts car I have and won't have any use for if ## interested.
If u go with the bypass just unplug it as well.

That belt on a 420A runs both power steering and a/c compressor. Unless you have done the mod to change your power steering rack to manual, you might want to reconsider leaving the belt off completely. Just measure for a shorter belt to go around the crank and power steering pully. The power steering pump on a 420A has the slide and pivot setup for tension adjustment.

running with no belt on the PS pump won't hurt anything as long as you leave all the PS lines in-tact. it just makes the wheel MUCH harder to turn at slow/stopped speeds.

also, he was talking about running only PS, and not looping the belt around the A/C, which can be done, and Napa sells a belt exactly for that. the PS pump itself is used to adjust the tension, as it is movable to some degree (enough to tension a belt)
