The goal I'm shooting for after my rebuild is around 400whp. My tranny is shot so I was wondering if a shep stage 3 is a little overkill,or if the stage 1 will be just fine for that goal. I dont want to spend the extra money if not needed, and what hp are people exceeding with the shep stage 1 rebuild without breaking,or shattering the 3-4 sleeve? Any input is appreciated Thanks guys!

When I was communicating/shopping for a rebuild. Shep said a stage 2 is good for up to 400hp.
If your goal is 400, you will be wanting 500 - I would go with at least a stage 3.

Go with a stock rebuild.

I have a shep stage 3 with a welded center diff.

It's not how strong is your transmission, and how much power it can hold.

The true question is when will it break. Plus stock rebuilds are cheaper.

A simple stock rebuild should hold just fine. I went 11.1 @ 129mph with a 3150lbs race weight on a stock trans.

Shop around for different trannys. You should give Tim Zimmer (twicks69) a pm and see what he can do for you. I can almost guarantee his price is going to be lower than anyone elses for the same thing if not even a better trans for cheaper.

Thanks for the info...

Jack's Transmissions Economy 1.2 build is $900, and is good for 400hp.

As a few folks here have noted, 400hp on a stock trans will be fine, as long as you are shifting and launching smoothly. Clutch adjustment is another key element in the longevity of your transmission, as a poorly adjusted clutch will kill your synchros and it won't shift at any power level LOL.
