I have a 96 Avenger 2.0 that is going to get overhauled in the near future. Started looking around and found this place. I know that I can go back to stock configuration for less than $600 (If that) in parts. Is it feisable to get 400 whp out of it with a $3000 budget not including labor (free) and machine work?

Why do you need to wait months? I do not understand your logic at all. It's called looking aka "lurking" that's it.

I do not need to argue about anything. If I do not know, I do not post it. But most importantly, I find it if I do not know. Searching this site and Google will yield infinite knowledge. You just have to want it. All those post... yea, all posted within September. Do not think it's last year's ad just because you have to go as far as 27 pages. Search is King.

Do your build or swap OP, it's your money... BURN IF YOU WANT. Only your mom can tell you what to do. :thumb:

I second this comment, Im working on the same budget 3000 and so far the parts I been looking at will be lower than my budget. So far I have gotten a 20g brand new only used as a display model for $500 a DSMlink V2 including ECU 580 shipped (Thanks Brad), and those where parts that I was thinking was goin to be around 2000 that gave me 1000 more to pay with. Going to get gauges from glow shift only 150 for the set I would list everything else but don't have the time point is everything I'm getting is only going to add up to around 2200 so yes it can be done on a $3000 budget just have to be patient and look around but this is for a GST not a 420a motor. With this set up I'm looking for around a little less than 400hp since im leaving internals stock pus it FWD and I seriously dont think I need more power than that.

I vehemently agree with reclipsergst about avoiding ebay turbos, and I'm not looking for another MHI vs Ebay argument. You will have more PROVEN success without any significant risk of catastrophic failure if you stick with a name brand turbo. MHI, Garret, Holset...

I would definitely stay away from Ebay turbos, there are some people on here that run an Ebay turbo and still running strong. Some would consider those select few very lucky. Buying an Ebay turbo is taking a big chance and a turbo is not something you want to take a chance with. Just get a nice used turbo rebuild it and your set.

Is that better for you????

^^^^ Wow. run on sentence. You should really use punctiation :)

With FWD, you need MORE horsepower to make up for the loss of traction in 1st and 2nd and sometimes 3rd. . . That's just my opinion.

I find it amusing that you continue to focus on the most insiginificant portion of my post, which is whether or not its possible to find parts at the pricing you claim. As I already stated I wasnt interested in debating that point so why bother wasting any time searching to supporting your useless point? The money to buy supporting parts and rebuilds isnt included in your estimate, therefore the car would end up as a highly modified paper-weight. Dont tell the OP he's capable of doing something he's not before he spends thousands on unrealistic expectations. So YOU should keep your opinions to yourself until you are qualified to post, or this Lurker will be forced to call you out once again.

I know that but like I said I'm not going to upgrade my internals just yet so around 400 is good for me. Plus here in El Paso there are not many Gst pushing 400hp, come to think of it not that many DSM's here to begin with. Sorry for the run off sentence did not even realized it but its fixed now :thumb:

Wow, it amazes me that the Mods didn't jump all over everyone who told the OP that it wasn't worth building the 420A up to a certain horsepower (first few posts). My post got deleted when I told a fellow DSM'er that he couldn't attain 250-300 whp with an "all motor" N/T, and got threatened with an infraction for doing so. Note: I said nothing about selling the car, just said "It can't be achieved without a turbo"... Mod who stepped in was:

VelocitàPaola

Let me get this right, because it's an Avenger: the 4g63 guys can speak up? I'm still trying to figure this site out, forgive my ignorance. I'm A "New Member/Lurker".

Well, off to a good start. FREE turbo. I'll post up some pictures later to help identify.

Drum roll....

Is was blowing oil down the exhaust, so I am going to need a rebuild kit.

Yep, came off of a Porsche.

2.986 outter comp
2.060 inner

2.991 outter turbine
2.505 inner

If it's a k27, its good for about .4 Kg/sec. That is about 53lb/min, about like an hx35 OMG. . . ON THE COMPRESSOR SIDE. I think the turbine is still tiny. . . How are you sure it's a k27? The k26 is MUCHO more common. . . 944 turbo. The k27 comes on a bmw 745i, I believe. and I think never came on a porsche. . . The wheel size does lend to it being bigger than a k26 :)

If it's a k26, it's good for abotu 34lb/min about the same as a 14b :). Which is a good choice for this build.

Not sure how it ended up on this Porsche. The guy I got it from is working on the car. The owner just bought it a few months back. The owner before that....who knows.

Is it ok to media blast the turbine? Or should I even worry about it? Not really that dirty. Looked like it might have been rebuilt not to long ago.
