Portland,
Well I'm in the market for another DSM and a couple weeks ago there were none, now there are 4 and I can't pick. Here's a list and let me know what you guys think.

92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD
Black
126k Miles
New Timing Belt and New Water Pump
$2500

91 Eagle Talon TSI AWD
Red
103k Miles
Rebuilt Turbo
$2500

94 Mitsubishi Eclipse
Color???
119k Miles
VIS CF Hood
HKS SSQV BOV
2G Rims w/ Toyo FZ4's on them
$3400

94 Eagle Talon TSI AWD
Teal :barf:
72k Miles :)
ACT2600 Clutch
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
New Water Pump, Timing Belt, Oil Pump
MBC @15PSI
Autometer Boost Gauge
$3500

Now the 92 would be nice since it's a 6/4 and the color isn't bad. I think I might be able to talk him down to $2000 or so. The new timing belt and fuel pump don't hurt either.

91 I'm probably not gonna take but figured I'd throw it in here. Miles aren't to bad, has the 6/4 like the 92. Color isn't bad either. The turbo was rebuilt so once I get a 16g I can recoupe some of the cost on it.

94 Eclipse has the CF hood and BOV which ends up saving me about $500-700. Miles are about right for a car of it's age and has the 2G rims and new tires which wouldn't be bad. Has the big brakes on it that the 91 and 92 don't have, but it's also got the 7/4 in it.

94 Talon has the clutch, fuel pump boost gauge and that saves me 300+Labor of the clutch. Really Low miles which I really like about it. That's about 50,000 miles less then a car of that age. The color is that teal color though which is really a turn off. Hood needs a repaint and the roof has a dent from when his CF hood came off. He is a friend of a friend so I'm pretty sure that he will go lower on the price. Same as the Eclipse has the the big brakes but has the 7/4 on it.

Now I know that the 7/4 is a big problem on the 2G's and crankwalk, but how are they on the 1GB's. I haven't heard of many 1GB crank walk stories, and what makes a 6 bolt 1G better then a 7 bolt 1G?

I always go with the lowest miles and a bone stock setup. I do this because I don't want somebody else's project that has had the shit driven out of it. Yes yes I know that a stock DSM can still have the shit driven out of it....but at least it hasn't had any wrong mods done or improper mods done ....I hope.

92 TSI for me

I would definately go with the 92 depending on production date. You get the best of both worlds 6 bolt / 4 bolt combo, and i'm partial to black.

All 92+ have a 4 bolt rear, but not all 92s have a 6 bolt motor. Might wanna make sure it does have a 6 bolt.

I would do the 91, I like the pop up headlights better, plus the miles are great for a 91.

2nd would be the 92.

Either would be great because they are both stock, hopfully never been rode to hard, the other two may have been with obvious mods. Plus the 91,92 are both way cheaper in price. :thumb:

Well I already talked to the guy with the 92 and he confirmed that it was a 6bolt.

Yeah I think it's gonna be between the 92 or the 94 TSI's. The 92 would be nice for the price, and color and stockness. Where as the 94 would be nice because of the low miles, some mods on it that I was gonna do anyways, plus I'm pretty certain I could talk the seller down to like $3000 for it.

Are the 7/4's on the mid 92-94's that bad?

i do like the popups more than the 93-94 lights but id personally take the 94 teal..... color is kinda ugly but it has real low miles and the 7 bolt is still a good motor... i wouldnt worry about crankwalk. good luck

unless he swapped it, if it has real headlights its a 7 bolt for sure. How did you verify? Words? He likely doesnt know what the difference is. A lot of ppl think all 1gs are 6 bolts. Id be sure to find that out. And if it is a 6 bolt, i retract my vote and put it towards the 92. i picked 91 cuz i thought it was the only 6 bolt.

Well I'm pretty sure that the 92 is a 6/4. I asked him and he said 6bolt, asked him for the manufacture date and it's was in April. I thought I remember reading that they didn't switch to the 7/4 till May or so. Ran the VIN and it really is a 92, so no conversions or that stuff.

i know when they switched from 6 to 7 but i thought they went from 3-4 at the same exact time they went from 6 -7.. im not up to date on my AWD stuff but i was pretty sure it was like a new generation DSM.. ( LOL i geuss they are called 1gb for a reason.)

well, all 92's are 4 bolt, that part is cut and dried, but like i said, pre-may ones have a 6 bolt...so if you ever run across a 92 with a build date in 91...buy it for me :D

The production date is a long thought and fought debate. Some say April, some say May, some say June. I say June, always have (especially now since I own a 6 bolt 1G produced in May of '92). Easiest way is to just check the oilpan for the indent/bulge toward the driverside (indent 7 bolt, bulge 6 bolt).

well i think it was mid may...like may 12th or something like that...but i could be wrong

Its definately not in April, They switched over in mid May, 12th is probably around there.

I feel that the 4 bolt rear end is not that big a deal, The 3 bolt is more than strong enough for most mods, I run mid 12's(12.4@110) and have done several hard launches with no probs, even if you really plan on going huge on mods (400hp), you can buy a set of 4 bolt rears for around $100 or so, I would not let a $100 4 bolt rear dictate me buying a car with 23,000 thousand more miles.

Without a doubt buy the 91 103k :thumb: Hell yes

I would want to know why are they selling them first. If they are selling an incomplete project... I would stray away. I vote 92.
