3D printed Drip moldings

They wont last long being in the air and sun. Moat are fine with plastidipping and re paitning them. While not as good as the rubbery texture or feel they are alot better then the chrome that comes through. Plastic ones im not sure will last long. Maybe if they were a carbon mix they wouod be stronger and last longer but then thats alot trickier to print and keep getting perfect!

Lets not forget space!! You would need an industial sized printer to print in ONE piece! How would you manage that?

Size is less of an obstacle than I initially thought - though I'm not positive exactly how long the drip moldings are. Material would be the big question for me. And they aren't likely to be very affordable. This is a screenshot of the materials and sizes that could be created from one of the more frequently used vendors I deal with at work.

The entire length of the drip moulding is 1600mm!!! Thats along way! No printer thats hobby can do that! My orinter can do 450x450! And thats considered HUGE!!! Only industrial can print those lengths and then your talking about 2 days of print time and a huge bill at the end and most wont want to pay that even in batch orders since printing is 1 speed really.

Anything normal plastic will break and not last, carbon 40/50% will will work and do the job very well for strength but then you still got to find away of finishing it as it cannot be left plastic face showing

I purchased degree wheel adapter that was 3D printed and I have to say the material wasn’t the greatest. Idk if it’s the product they used or what but it’s wasn’t very strong.

And I think Bobby is right. Those suckers are long so I don’t think a standard (hobbyists) printer would work.

Knowing the size, obviously the screenshot I provided is pretty useless for the discussion. Just want to be clear, I'm not disagreeing with Bobby as size is certainly something to consider. But I also wasn't limiting myself to the 3D printers people like us might have in our garages. Hence the, "..they aren't likely to be very affordable." :thumb:

I looked into re making them, I got some way forwards but the tooling cost was alot! I did start to look at another way but then never proceeded to pursue it but its not requiring a huge press tool so it would be alot better. I just wish I had more time to keep on top of these smaller things LOL
