I don't think this is very normal. I was always under the assumption that if you don't get any knock then timing advance will rise from around 5-8 degrees to around 20-25 degrees under hard acceleration. But according to my MMCD palm logger program Im getting 5-8 degrees at idle (which sounds pretty normal to me) and then while cruising they soar up to 20-40 degrees. WTF is going on? I'm also getting HUGE amounts of knock (at partial throttle mostly). My EGTs are NORMAL. I've just upgraded to 650cc injectors and a SAFCII (stock fpr, stock fuel pump, yeah yeah I know I'll have to upgrade both of these). On my SAFC I have to take away HUGE amounts of fuel in order not to run pig rich. My low throttle settings start at like -20 and end around -33, and my high throttle settings start around -26 and end around -40. I've heard that when operating so far from the zero fuel correction line that your timing becomes advanced by the ecu (I think because its seeing abnormally small amounts of air while cruising?). Could this be the cause? Are my SAFC settings so low that they are causing this wacked out advanced timing (and possible causing my crazy knock problems?). Maybe hacking up the MAS will help lean up things a bit and bring the whole curve farther up. NOTE: My knock sensor is brand new (has like 3 miles on it) so I know its not that, and I'm running an EVO16G @10psi.

I see 38+ deg of timing while crusing also. My wideband fluctuates around 14.7 A/F and no knock. I get good gas mileage and don't see anything wrong with the timing being there.

When I have a steady cruise speed going on I see 35~39 for my timing. Car runs good.

are both of you using mmcd to log? Maybe something about the program is a little finicky, or maybe this is supposed to be normal I guess...

Well I richened up my low throttle settings, and WHAM, NO KNOCK WHAT SO EVER. WOT gets no knock, and low throttle gets no knock. Guess I was just running the low throttle a little lean (hope I didnt melt my plugs) argh. Thanks for your replies it really helped!
