I got SAFC2 installed today and when I cranked my car, it fired and then SAFC2 read 37 counts of knk and then as I was driving after the car warmed up it knocked one more time. I went to target and got out, cranked, 42 counts of knock and 0 whilest driving. Is my knock sensor shot?

well i dont know if its norm on these cars but on almost every GM at my work knocks right when you start em up. you can actualy here it. But that is pretty much the norm for GM's. I know my 00 trans am does it loud when first starting. I wouldnt worry about it tho. If I am wrong someone correct me! LOL Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I also heard that the knock sensor will hear lifter tick and count that as knock. My car has horrible lifter tick when it is cold. But someone still suggested my knock sensor could be bad. Any other ideas?

Well the only thing to do is swap it out and try a new one. (Torque it to spec!!)

As for starting don't worry about it at all. Seriously. Your knock sensor is listening for any wierd explosion ping that comes from the block caused by colliding flamefronts and whatnot. Starting your car will cause all sorts of wierd things to happen in the chambers. Its cold, it's putting LOTS of fuel into the cylinders, there's a little motor turning the engine over, timing is locked flat, The motor is barely rotating so it's bouncing all wierd-like instead of being smooth. I mean pretty much everything that happens there could can and will set that sensor off. While driving is when you should worry. And only when it's warmed up. Then fuel trims and timing are in full and normal effect.
