Anybody know of a aftermarket front spindle for a 1g? I've broke 3 and its getting old! They are breaking at the stem between the strut bolt and wheel bearing. Any help on where to find stronger spindles would be awesome, thanks.

How are you breaking these? I have owned many of these and worked on many more for the past 15 years, and have yet to see this happen.

I guess it starts as a stress crack, the track surface gets pretty rough sometimes. I haven't had this problem long and I'm still trying to figure out why they are breaking. So far its bee 2 right sides and a left. All of the snapped in the same spot.

That type of racing is hard on stuff. It is definitely possible that you are exposing them to forces beyond what they were engineered to withstand. What doesn't make sense is why the thick cast spindle would break over the thin metal of the strut unless it is all harmonic based and You could just be exposing a weak part in the casting. There really isn't too much that could cause an issue like this. If all else fails you could possibly use a 3g eclipse spindle or an evo spindle with a custom lower ball joint and see how they perform.

Yeah your right bryanwheat, I know I'm putting way more stress on them than I should be. As far as the 3g spindle's go I didn't realize that was a option, I'll look into that asap. Right now I'm replacing broken parts with junk yard parts and that could be some of the problem. These parts are 20 yrs old..... Maybe something that hasn't seen as many freeze/thaw cycles would be more durable. Thank you!

You might have to do some adapting with axles also, i am not sure about the spline fittment. I would go maybe check and see if you can find a 3g at a salvage yard and take some measurements of the bolt spacing on the top and the width of the top. I don't know for sure if one is stronger than the others, but there is a chance that you could get it to work and it might last longer.

I'm not sure if it would help but you could also look into having them treated/hardened. Maybe a cryo treatment, shot peening, or maybe some type of heat treatment?

That's what I was thinking but I wouldn't have a clue where to find anybody that does that, its pretty expensive replacing struts axles brake lines and fixing fenders (everything that's tore up after the spindle breaks) so I'm sure it would be well worth it![DOUBLEPOST=1408073779][/DOUBLEPOST]That's what I was thinking but I wouldn't have a clue where to find anybody that does that, its pretty expensive replacing struts axles brake lines and fixing fenders (everything that's tore up after the spindle breaks) so I'm sure it would be well worth it!
