3 alternator belts in less then a year!!!

please help i have went through almost 3 alternator belts in less then a year. the first one i did and it was fine then about 4-5 months lator it ripped apart again so i took it to a shop thinking i did it wrong do no how that would be possible but thought well its a dsm anything could happen. so they did it and it was good and dandy well for the past month the loud squeeking came back and the belt is starting to go again. i think its my alternator because if im driveing shortly after i start my car and down shift at nite the lights dim alot as soon as the squeeking starts. so please help

sorry im not a newb but do you mean gator belt or the brand gates. and where can i get one and how much

I'd like to know this as well. Even though I read a thread with the new revised belts from Mitsubishi... I lost the link though. Lets stop the SQUEALING!!!

To get rid of the squeal you could use a bar of soap. I've never heard of wax, but I used soap all the time on my 87 full size dodge truck cause it sounded like a slaughterhouse when i started it up.

I would check the alignment of the pulleys, yes you can use a level or ruler or something like that. That's the easiest way.

Gatorbacks are nice too, but Gates are better. I wasn't aware that they made them for DSM's though. I always used them on the company tractor and front loader and stuff though.

Next guess would be bearings, or the edges of the pulleys. My friend just got his 2g back from the shop and after shredding 3 accessory belts in a week, we found a ding in one pulley that was tearing apart the belt. Could have the same problem.
