2nd gen mass

Will if you are planing on upgrading your car in the future I guess so. Reason being the 1G mas will be over run somewhere around 250hp, or you can hack the hell out of it. Or by having the 2g mas you can produce up to round 400hp with little modification done, by having 550cc injectors and a AFC. If you want to return to stock its not that hard to do.

On the other hand you can get the GM mas that will handle more then the 2g mas But in my opinion its a little more work. Some have the GM mas between the throttle body and the bov, by doing so you can vent your bov and sound COOL :D. But keep in mind going with the GM route require more stuff.

IMO, the 2G MAS is a better upgrade than the GM MAFT, especially if you don't have the right tools/knowledge to tune the MAFT properly. They can be very finicky. If you plan to run >16-17psi you MUST get rid of the 1G MAS. It starts to overrun, giving wrong airflow signals to the ECU. But, the 2G MAS really should be used with some kind of compensation, preferably a chip, because it puts out a frequency 25% lower than a 1G MAS for the same airflow, which will really lean you out.
The 3G #482 MAS is an even better upgrade, and it is the same 3 1/8" round as the 1G aircan, making it easier to integrate. But, you MUST use a chip with a 3G MAS, as the output Hz is even lower than a 2G MAS.

whats the best way to install the 2nd gen maf correctly?

I got some no name e-bay intake for a 2G and got a MAF plug from a 3000GT in the junkyard and I spliced it myself. Either that or buy yourself an adapter that plugs in, its about 25 bucks and they usually turn up in e-bay from time to time.

DSM's in particular run a wee bit richer, I don't know about some other turbo cars so the upgrade to a 2G balances it out a little bit, I've read it in some article a couple of years back. Its still doesn't hurt to put a S-AFC if you want a somewhat precise tuning and other parameters.

FYI: 3000GT/Stealth MAFS are the same as 2G turbo MAFS. I guess it just uses a different part number for some reason. Hell, even the dreaded ISC are the same for both cars.
