2nd gear pulls ok for mmcd?

My car has remained untuned for a long time. Part of this is because I live in one of the worst states for traffic infractions..Virginia.

Anything over 80mph is reckless by speed and is subject to a year in jail or $2500 fine. Combine this with radar detectors being illegal and I hope you can get the bigger picture. Alot of people around here (in Virginia) just don't seem to care and get away with speeding but I am more cautious. If I was to do a whole series of 2nd gear pulls and then ultimately a 3rd gear pull, how close much more tuning would I have to do in 3rd?

I know that the odds of getting pulled over at the top of 3rd gear are very low, but I want to minimize my risk.

How fast would I be going give or take a few mph at the top of 3rd gear with stock tires and drivetrain?

Should I log all the way to redline in 3rd gear?

With such little opportunity to do this, I want to make sure I get this right.

You need to join dsmecu.com. Us over there deal with running on ostrich and TP. We can def help dial in ## tune. Doing 2nd gear pulls will be fin. But get a null modem connector and a keyspan serial to usb so that you can log on ## laptop. What MAF are you running?
 
Hey bud, I am a member over there. I kind of gave up because it took so much focus and at least at the time no one had answers. Running stock MAF and MMCD. Have a laptop for tuning and would prefer to use MMCD since I already have a palm iiic hardwired to my car. Really don't want to put any more money into it. I think I need to move up your way so I can go 120 mph and just get a speeding ticket. :D

I could never figure out how to tune with the MAF. Thats why I went SD. But for some reason the SD tune will not work on my car:( Wont even start. With jackal it was so easy and quick to setup my car. When she runs she runs very well.

For tuning id move up here. 97 between Annapolis and Baltimore never has cops and everyone does like 80. So a third gear pull can be done with no worrys:)
 
I think that I have enough to go on to tune with the MAF. If you ever revert I'd be happy to share my pitiful years of looking at it. Guess I should rent a hotel one night and do some pulls up there. :)

The thing is, this is where the good paying jobs are....so it's a tradeoff (but such a miserable one).

All my buddies in MD are afraid of this place and I know why.

So you say 2nd would be ok to tune from permanently? I don't mind going into 3rd but it would have to be carefully planned. Would hate to have to do that 20 times around here!

Givin tickets to out of state Vehicles with modified exhaust. Like WTF is that shit? I think that if you do some 2nd gear pulls to get a base line of what you need you may be able to get the rest of the way under normal driving. That what I useally do.
 
Yep, got a reckless after 9 years with clean license. No warning, just straight to reckless! Don't want to take any more chances. Heck a friend of mine in Southern Maryland got a ticket and he held a clean license too. I really want my vehicle to be a stop light winner then shut her down. None of that highway drama crap...too old for that. I guess I'll post some 2nd gear pulls and take it from there.

NP, Ill try to help out as best as I can. Im gettin good at Jackal. I need to figure out why the sd tune from the yahoo group wont work. I really want to dive back into hex editing. Id really love to figure out how to do custom stuff
 
YOU can tune from 2nd gear logs but what you wil hav eto deal with is that the boost will come on much later so the areas where boost builds in third would be out of whack(ak.a. lean) Also you would have to realize that in third with more load you need to have a little less timing than what you could get away with in second as well as having a little more fuel at the given load cells. I know MAF tuning allows the ECU to make changes for actually airflowcomparedto SD which i use, but there's still the same principals ofload being applied.
