Hey all,

I've been trying to get a good feel of my Talon's overall ability since my EVOIII 16G and Dejon super SMIC went in, and I wanted some feedback if you don't mind. For reference, boost is currently set to 15 psi.

From what I notice now, 1st gear is INSANE! It throws you back in your seat and feels as though the front of the car is rising up a bit, and goes by so fast that you have to be paying close attention not to go past redline. 2nd gear, however, is a bit confusing.

In 2nd, the car doesn't quite "feel" as fast as it should. If you punch it from say 2-3000 rpm, it feels boggy and seems like it takes longer than it should to wind through the gear. To test it out a bit I went out and timed it, which is one of the things I'd like your input on. I started at 3000 rpm, stepped on it and started the timer. I went all the way to redline (maybe just a hair over, like 7050 rpms), stopped the timer, and took my foot off the gas. I timed this pull at 4.31 seconds. Does that seem right for my current setup? When I started the pull at 3000 I felt the car "bog" just a bit, but the following turbo spoolup didn't feel that powerful even though it went to and held at 15 psi.

It seems like if I slowly push the gas down starting around 3k-3500 rpms in 2nd, the spool will pull me back into my seat a bit harder. But if I am lower in the rev range, and/or I just floor it quickly, it doesn't feel like it's pulling as hard.

So based on my time, what can you tell me? Does this seem like a decent time? Is the car generally faster in 2nd than it actually feels? As far as the challenge goes, can anyone make a reasonable guess as to what the vehicle might be capable of, as far as 1/4 mile time and 0-60 time goes, based on this info? :)

Thanks for reading and I look forward to the responses! :thumb:

Do you have any logs to tell us what your trims and timing are doing? If it's more than your imagination, those things should be able to tell you/us what's wrong. i.e. too rich, maybe lean enough to knock and pull timing creating that sluggish feeling

also, I'm combating the same problem right now with my evo 16G but this is after a rebuilt head. It was really bad and I leaned out the mid range about 5 percent and that helped a lot. My logs seem show a tad rich still and I just changed my old plugs about an hour ago so we'll see if I can lean it out a tad and get better low/mid power. I'll let you know.

Thanks for the replies guys. Well, sluggish feelings aside, how about the time itself? Does 4.3 seconds seem like a long time to go from 3k to redline in 2nd? Or is it fairly quick?

I guess another way to look at it is going from about 27 to 64 mph in 4.3 seconds, while starting below the ideal powerband (since full boost doesn't hit until about 3.5k anyway). Quick or no? I know my Talon is overall much quicker now but I want to see what you think about my 2nd gear's performance as is.

Thanks again!

BTW to answer the questions, I don't have injectors or an AFC yet, and no logging equipment. They're in the cards but for now it's strictly seat of the pants and by the stopwatch. :)

Well if you went from a T25 to a Evo16 then naturally you are going to feel a difference. The Evo isnt going to spool as fast. I say try this, but its just an idea from me. Get on it in first do a good decent shift at about 6400 go for your second and shift at 6000 third the same at 6000. You should feel a pretty good pull out of it. Also if your kinda cruising in first and stomp it in second dont expect an immediate response. It is a bigger turbo than what you had. If that doesnt work than next I agree with the others it could be pulling timing.

LOL, I was driving back from the bank and for some reason this topic poped into my head so I nailed at the bottom of second. I hit red line right around 3 seconds going slightly up hill. I wouldn't jump to conclusion but maybe you'll get a few other peoples times to compair.

Cool, thanks for the replies. I'm going to go out tonight and do some dedicated testing. When I gun it in first and shift to 2nd, it does pull better through 2nd. I usually shift at about 6500 but I should probably bump that up to redline because of the new powerband.

98spydert -- What boost are you running? I'm at 15psi with the only fuel mod being a 190, on Sunoco 94. I think I can do better than 4.3 but I'll see. What RPM were you at when you punched it, do you know?

Thanks guys.
