Hola com padres. :hellyeah:

Names Bill... A couple of the older guys might remember me from a while back. Had a slowboy built 500whp 2.4L 98 Eclipse GSX.

I parted the car out back in 05 or 06? And have since then built some pretty gnarly other cars. Turbo b16 crx, 260whp k20 N/A EG hatch, 1jz 240, and so on.

I currently drive a... nothing. LOL

Lost my license until May 17th 2011 for some DUI related stuff. Yes I am retarded. :ohdamn:

Anyways, I'm going to take the next year to gather a list of information needed in order to swap a 2JZ-GTE inline 6 into a 2nd gen GSX, and also start to gather the parts needed.

if you would like to input your ideas in as well please feel free to, just please dont come in and throw smart ass comments to bump your post count. Examples:

- rofl ## ghey why use a ghey toyotor moturzzzz
- good luck dude your gonna need 20K
- scrap that swap put in an evo motor
- just go buy an mkiv supra dude.

...pretty much if it doesn't help the cause, don't post it.

This will be done, 100%. I'm not 16, i don't live with my parents and the funds are there. So please, please, please do not flame.

I would like to hear what some of the vets have to say!

Good Luck to me! ...and I look forward to completing this project WITH you guys!

Man that sounds like a sweet idea. How are you planning on fitting the engine in the engine bay of the eclipse? Are you going to somehow move the firewall back? Good luck with the build:thumb:

I have seen this done to a conquest.. The guy who did it is local but i hear theres like 6 or 7 out there... If you could find a full drivetrain then it would be a fabricating game.. You are DEFIDENTLY going to have to do some major firewall work.. You need the ecu as well. This guy was running a 42r on his conquest LOL.. It was nasty.. If i were you i would search that conquest swap..

I'm definitely going to have to create a tunnel for the transmission. and i'm almost 100% sure it wont clear the factory hoodline but who knows.

Atleast the tunnel for the rear end and driveshaft is there.

I'm pretty sure i can get the motor low enough in the engine bay that if i run some type of modified hood, it wont be overly noticeable.

i mean people are sticking v8's into civics, i can definitely make this happen.

If anyone has a GSX shell sitting around, feel free to get some measurements of the engine bay(between the towers, from the firewall to the rad support, between the frame rails, etc.)

If I can get this to come together pretty smoothly I may even manufacture a kit so that other people can take advantage of my r&d and hard work.

I know a list of things that need done for the most part, just need some details figured out:

- wiring
- mounts
- driveshaft
- rear end
- drivetrain (most likely use the r154 5 speed tranny instead of the getrag 6 speed to save $$$)
- ecu (either oem to start with a piggyback, or a full standalone)
- intercooler
- radiator
- fuel lines and pump
- BIGGER BRAKES :p

im probably forgeting a few things but thats a general idea.

Im sure you can fit the engine in there.. It isn't that long.. If you must you can put the radiator off to the side alittle or run in infront of the support..

hey iv'e seen a thread of a guy doing this to his eclipse, he spent about $30,000 in total :ohdamn:. i think if you google it you might be able to find it. if i find it i'll ad a link so u can get some ideas from what he/they did to fit the engine

I suppose if you had a shop do it for you it might cost a pretty penny. But I have a lot of friends int he industry and can weld my brains out.

I'm thinking the project should cost around 10-13K total.

full swap will run around 3500
standalone will be another 1500
tuning 500
fuel pump 200
custom driveshaft 1000
rearend? thinking 300zx or supra? 300?
intercooler 500
radiator 400
mounts will be made by me
wiring will be done by me

then ill probably cage the whole thing.

I'm almost positive that if I bought used parts like an intercooler and ran an oem 2jz ecu that I could do this swap for less than 7K

I remember a couple years ago someone on A/T DSM talking about working on a swap. I believe it was Turbo Tony. I know he is on New England DSM.

For a rear I would say just go with a ford 9in or an 8.8 they're a dime a dozen and have so many options for cheap! Not to mention you could probably find a few members that have done the swap already.

Edit: Have you thought about going auto? It's the way to go if your looking for consistancy.

Really? I would really like to talk to someone if they have finished the swap! It's always nice to speak with someone who has already about to experience some of the headaches that your going to experience LOL.

For the rear end i would use a 3000gt vr4 unit. Tough as nails and not very hard to swap from my understanding. One of the major tuning shops runs one in their drag evo. Actually the whole swap shouldn't be that bad, there is a lot of documentation out there for rwd dsm conversions now. I think there is info on a ford 9" rear end setup out there as well.

^^ Absolutely, I'm definitely not going solid rear axle for the sake of autox and drift. The car will be stupid fast at the drag strip anyways!

If it were me i would consider using a 1g shell. The 1g engine bay is much larger than a 2g. Regardless it is going to require lots of clearancing in the firewall, and the stock k member/steering rack is going to occupy alot of the space required for a transmission. I am sure it can be done, but its gonna be TONS of work.

Go for it!

I've seen some pretty big engines stuck inside a DSM before.
Here's one from a track day last summer.

I would suggest paying off your fines before blowing all your money on something fruitless like a 2jz swap, I'm sure this thread will be whored all over the net in the next few months....

You guys are way off base!^^

Look up ryan woon, youll see what the stock drivetrain of a supra can do. Getting that 6 speed is reason enough to do the swap. Infact, most people put supra trannies in their RWD 4g63 cars.

I fully support this swap. +1 2jz s are cheap down here though.

it will be a tight fit to say the least..

You may want to consider some space saving awesomeness. like rear mount radiators and a water to air intercooler(s)..

are you keeping it twin turbo. that would kick ass.

also for the hood clearance issue it may be worth drysumping. i know the kits are big $... but your already buying a supra engine and trying to fit it in a DSM. IMOP it would be worth keeping the weight low to the ground.
