has anybody done this and will it look funny or have any side effects?

my reasoning for it is drag radials dont come in a 16" wheel and i was seeing if i can get 15s to fit or ill have to go to 17s and i was just curious if i can go 15s

i know 17s will be easier. just looking at options

all depends on your brakes....If your still running on the shitty gs-t calipers then go with 15s, less rotational mass on the outside of the rim and also a thick sidewall will provide MUCH better grip.

However, if you are planning on upgrading to gsx brakes or wilwoods or something, get 17s defintiely, otherwise you wont fit...

13's will fit over the gs-t calipers, 14's will fit over the gsx calipers(that are not that much bigger). There is no performance gain to be seen by going with larger than a 16" wheel on a fwd dsm for drag racing. Check my profile to see what my car looks like with my 13" slick set up.

Edit: BFG makes a perfect size DR for us in a 15" size. It is only .1" smaller in diameter than the average 16" tire that would fit ont he stock rims.

can I get someone else to come in here and say the the gsx brakes will fit 14-inch rims? That doesnt seem possible, my 16-inch cleared them by like a millimeter, I dont see how they could fit 14s....

not that im saying your wrong but I swore I read like 60 places and even looked at em myself and no way seemed possible to be 14s on there..

You should have a good inch and a half between the rim and the caliper. The spokes will be close but they always are. If they do rub on the spokes a simple spacer will fix it no problem.

Edit: Like I said check my gallery for pix of my car with the 13" slick set up. They clear but just barely. The rotors for the gsx is not much bigger than the gst one and the caliper isn't that much taller. Trust me I am about to go with the gsx brake upgrade on my 2g and have been looking at all the options as far as running the smallest wheel for my slicks.

Put it this way: EVO2's came with 15" wheels from the factory and the same 2 piston GSX calipers that are in our cars, with the same diameter rotors.

You might have to play around with wheel offset for smaller wheels though.
