I recently purchased some ebay headers, an ebay catback, ebay CAI, and in a final pathetic twist... I'm sending off my throttle body to get it bored to 56mm because I don't have the stuff to do it. My question is what chip chould I get... as I plan on adding on to this with a ported intake manifold down the road a bit.

Should I wait to get this part until I have a ported intake manifold... or would it be ok to add that later.

I'm chip illiterate. Help me out. None of the parts have been installed yet. Two arent even here yet.

OK. Chips do NOTHING for our car. The only thing worth doing ecu wise is the AFX race ecu. It will give you a good gain for your $$ it'll give about 20whp. The chips for our cars are a scam. The whole having someone on ebay bore your tb was prolly a bad idea too. they are prolly just going to take out the hump in the tb which will do a little but not worth the $$ if you wanted to do the tb get a modern performance tb. If cash is tight do the 60mm jeep tb or get ARD in houston to bore your tb to a true 57mm and give you a new butterfly. A good mod to get would be an AFX udp. Its 140 at howell automotive and will give you noticable gains.

we dont even know what generation he is, let alone if hes a 97, so the afx computer might not work for him. send your tb to Howell and have them bore it out to 55mm for $100. but at for "chips" go, unfortunatly, any electronic mods to gain power have to be done the old fashion way. i know, tuning, its barbaric for these times, but it has to be done. you can get a S-AFCII to tune with.

complied.

Thank you

Thanks for the input, I figured as much. As far as getting the 60mm Jeep TB, is this from a certain year/model?

I found someone locally who will bore it out, but it's not cheap at all

any throtle body from the 4.0 I-6 jeep engine will work I believe from 89-98 but don't take my word on that one.I used one from a 95 jeep cherokee. It comes in 57 mm I belive, then i just ported it to 60mm but you don't have to.You might get a MIL light and slight idling problems till you figure it out.I had to buy the IAC motor from the chrysler dealer cuz I broke the one from my eclipse. It's not hard to do if your mechanicly inclined.Good mod for your buck.Well my tb was free thtas why I did it.

It's a "resistor mod", used to fool the ecu into thinking throttle is at a different angle, or intake is at a different temperature.

They don't offer real gains. For yourself, look into a SAFC, DSMlink, Keydiver, etc. Those work.

Lol, really? The shaky finger guy on this one?

Well, you got a point. It DOES say 50hp and 50tq right there in writing so it must be true. And look at the years that it covers, amazing!

Don't believe everything you read. Um, except for what Locke wrote, LOL.

You guys have shit on your noses.

:p

hahahaha never heard that phrase before, nice.

yeah like everyone else said...

chips - nope. if you had a 97 you could consider the AFX ecu but nevermind since you've got a 95. You're left with either tuning piggyback style like an SAFC, tuning for real with a stand alone like MSnS, or leave it stock.

throttle bodies - DIY Jeep tb, or buy the Modern Performance 60mm. I think it's about $175ish if I remember correctly... you might be spending close to that to get a 55mm bore, why not get a nice new larger one?

P&P intake manifold - personally I wouldn't bother. If you're staying NA, I doubt it would make enough of a difference to be worth the money. Perhaps Mark has actual dyno numbers showing how much you can gain from a SMIM, but I believe his dyno comparison also included long tube headers, and he's got a shit ton of other variables that are highly upgraded and tuned - basically unless you're building a hardcore NA dsm, I don't think your gains will be worth the investment. Just my opinion though...
