I just got under there and started unbolting things. It's really not that difficult when you really get your hands on it. I've installed somewhere near a dozen of them in the last couple years, but only one while the engine was in the car.

You have to undo the connectors on the back of the alternator for starters.
The adjustment bolt is going to need to be broken loose.
There is another bolt that the alternator hinges on at the base, near the block.

To get it out (the hardest part of the whole damn job), you need to remove...

To get it out (the hardest part of the whole damn job), you need to remove the passenger wheel well spash guard and snake it out like it's in a maze.

Your best bet is to get under the car (ALWAYS USE YOUR JACK STANDS. MY CAR JUST FELL OFF THE JACK ON ME YESTERDAY. Well, not on me, but fell off the jack because I wasn't all the way on the mounting point and hadn't put the stands under the car. IT DOES HAPPEN.) Anyways, undo the alternator from under the car and then work it out from the side. Just use your better judgement and keep track of which bolts came out of where. You can do it.
