2g with 6 bolt swap(tach signal)

A friend of mine who has a 95 gsx has a 6 bolt swapped into the car.

The car has no rpm signal coming to the gauge cluster. If i'm remembering correctly the cluster has a plug on the back that slides into the male end behind it. While the 1g's have a harness going into it.

When you do the swap is there anything that should be changed so that it still sees rpm signal or is it possible there is just a broken wire between the ecu and the cluster? OR does it get rpm signal directly from the engine?

The RPM signal comes from the engine control module, if he happened to reverse the polarity of the tach it is possible to damage the diodes and transistor. He could test to see if there is an open on the white wire, terminal 58 on the ecm. Atleast that gives you a start. Hope it helps an good luck
