Strange sound coming from my car. 97 talon tsi awd, 3" exhaust, 1g BOV, short ram intake.

Sound is a faint wistling. Seems to vary in pitch also. Happens when letting off gas, or when stepping on brake. Seems to go from high pitch to slightly lower.

It almost sounds like an electronic beeeeeeeeeepbeeap. I have searched and founds threads relating to tail light bulb outage signal, and boost leaks. I first thought it was coming from the rear of the car, but now am not sure. The exhaust is loud, and its hard to tell...

All the tail lights work, as does everything in/on the dash,,, sooooo, I guess that narrows it to a vacuum or boost leak???

Whats the most common whistling leaking areas?

Solution
O/K, so I did end up pinpointing the noise. As suggested above, it was the 1g blow off valve. Slightly annoying. I just turn up the stereo and it goes away. No boost leaks of any kind, and I can now make it happen while under the hood.
If the noise increases under boost, it's boost related, if it's steady with RPMs, it's motor related. If it's constant when you coast, it's drivetrain related.

So start the motor, pop the hood and listen around for it, WATCH your clothes and hair. Pullies will PULL you if you're not careful.

Rev the motor at the throttle body and listen around.

Only seems to happen when coming off boost. I will try and make it happen tomorrow with the hood up.

I have a whistling sound also in my 95 with a 1g swap. It seem to do it when the boost kicks in and it sounds like its in the cabin by my pedals.. 1st i thought it was the boost guage but i disconnected it and it still does it. Any ideas?

O/K, I tried making it happen with hood open, and moving the throttle cable. No go. I can hear the BOV as it releases back into the intake, slight whistling sound, but seems like its well contained,, and more like a fweee! sound very quick. I can hear many sounds under the hood, but nothing like "beeeeeeepbeeeap" sound in the cabin. I have factory service manuals, and they give no diagnostic for that type sound.

I am starting to think it is an electronic beep of some type. Either that, or its a vacuum leak that is more noticeable in cabin. Possibly fuel pressure related? Possibly boost gauge plumbing,, but that would be noticeable in upper left corner. This sound seems to come from rear of cabin, or central.

Solution
Hi there, i have the same problem with my 95 GST.
i did a boost leak test, and the "whistle" comes from the Throttle body,
behind it, near the springs, probable we'll need new seals :thumb:

Good luck

my car has the same noise but i found out it was my speaker just check if it dosent come out your speakers man cause thats what had me going.... when you get volts the speakers make a weird beeeeep sound when raising rpms and lowering it just fix minor cables from your speakers and it will be over ;)
