I have the 3" thermal with the oval muffler and 5" tip, and it doesnt sound as awesome as some of the other ones I've heard. 20g, 3" dp, no cat.

Is the oval muffler quieter than the round one? As far as I can tell, the oval muffler is straight through, but you can't hear the turbo whistling, nor does it have that 'growl' everyone loves about the TR&D. I'm thinking about swapping the muffler out at the last flange or adding a resonator to give it more depth.

Opnions? Anyone ran both?

See I have the circular tipped one and I was expecting this sound.

Tha'ts not quite what I got so I was thinking, hmm maybe its the oval muffler design that sounds like that. haha

Yeah....

Mine sounds nothing like that. But I've had a straight piped SRT4, so thats the sound I'm wanting LOL.

Any exhaust guru's around to tell me and TacoMan what the hell we're doing wrong??

I have the round and it sounds like that. (1g though) I have a 3 inch milspec cat, the flange was cut off and it is a full 3 inch all the way. I will be going test pipe, I'll see if there are any changes.

I have a stock o2 housing, flares to 3" at the start of the downpipe, catless dp hooked straight into a thermal 3". Its not as deep, nor as throaty as the vid and I can't hear the turbo at all.

I'm going to unhook the last section with the muffler tomorrow and see what it sounds like.

I have the Megan racing dp with the small section cut out and the Thermal 2G round canister exhaust.. So 3" catless turbo-back and when I let other people drive my car, I can hear my little 14b slightly whistling out the exhaust. I'd imagine cat would make a huge difference.

When did thermal switch? Ive only ever seen the oval which I had on my 1g and it sounded mean. Also its not a 5" tip if I recall. Thought it was a rolled 4" tip. Maybe you have a fake? I was sold a "thermal" for my 2g and when I received it I learned it was not. Maybe not fake but certainly misrepresented. Every thermal ive seen has a nice double wall tip and
Its engraved.

The 2G Thermal exhaust has a large round canister for the muffler and a 5" tip that comes straight out instead of slanted. The muffler canister is slanted and the 5" tip compensates to straighten it out.

Mine is genuine. It has the laser etched logo and double walled tip and all that jazz. If you look around, Thermal makes several different designs, they have the oval canister , the round one, round at a different angle so the tip is straight instead of canted, and I think I've seen a double tip one. I'm gonna go mess with mine in a bit and see what I can figure out.

I think I may have the old design Thermal. I've seen it mentioned that the older ones are quieter and aren't the same stainless. Also, I think the old ones had the 5" tip, newer ones are 4".

Yeah, I would never rock that. Thats actually why I started this endeavor, the thermal sounds too 'hummy' like a honduh. I want that growl that I know she has in her.

I also have a WG dump up front, so it sounds like a chorus of angry angels at WOT.

I have a thermal kit as well. The round muffler which is slanted like the picture and the 4 inch tip which comes straight out the back. Im running full 3 inch with no cat. Mine doesn't growl like the video either. just has a deep tone. and i cant hear my 16g whistle at all. Maybe when i swap to my new ball bearing green and race manifold it will be different. I bought the exhaust based on those youtube videos and was a little dissapointed with mine not sounding the same. :toobad:

According to their website, all 1G's and all FWD's (1G and 2G) use an oval can and the 2G AWD is the one that uses the round can.

Since the video of the white 2G is a GS-T, it's using the oval can.

Pretty sure they've changed the designs over the years. Mine is fwd and has the oval can. Unless the awd and fwd rear sections are swappable (which I highly doubt due to the angles coming across the bottom of the car), mine came with the oval can from Thermal.
