thermal exhaust

You may have to piece something together.

I currently run a Thermal on my 98 GSX, mated to a Megan down pipe. full 3" to the back. I also did a cat delete by cutting off the flange on the thermal, and welding a chunk of 3" stainless to extend up to mate with the Megan with a 2 hole flange.
Instead of that, you could also just insert a test pipe if you need a cat to pass inspection. :shhh:

I concure with all the posts above, I have one mated to a megan also, beware that megans don't fit perfect but what does, right! Yes, the sound is like no other, very different from any other company.

I run without a cat and at idle it sounds very nice and all most purrs; but at high RPMs it just sounds mean. If you have a cam setup expect to hear wonderful sounds.

I bought the three inch Thermal Research cat back for my Talon from Hahn Racecraft along with their 3 Inch down pipe and fabricated O2 eliminator and a high flow cat. Hahn provided all of the adaptors welded on.

The full three inch turbo back has a deep angry sound. Nothing like the annoying sound from the unnamed compacts with phart tubes.

It was pricy but after installation the Talon pulled up hills in fourth with the same throttle response as in third with the OE exhaust.

Thermal doesn't do anything past the catback. There is a whole lot more money involved in doing anything to the cat or pre- cat that Thermal hasn't been able to spend as of yet.
I have the 2G AWD catback exhaust. I love it. The Thermal research exhausts sound different because they use a thicker wall stainless tubing for their exhausts, mufflers and tips. It does sound different than any of the other exhausts out there because I don't think any of the other companies are building their exhausts to the same extent.
If you are thinking about buying a Thermal Research exhaust I would hi temp paint the flanges before you install it. The tubing is stainless but the flanges are mild steel and will rust. I painted my flanges with hi temp black primer and then hi temp red paint before I installed mine. I also used all stainless steel hardware. The system is very expensive but is holding up very well. Even though the tip is huge, it is pretty quiet at idle, so if you have problems with cops it'll get you by their ear.
It is heavier than other stainless 3 inch exhausts because of the thicker tubing. The Megan racing catback is a lot lighter. It is also heavier then the stock exhaust. It also way outperforms the stock exhaust.
The fit is great. No modification necessary. It was a complete bolt on affair.
Mine has been on my 2G for maybe 8 years and shows very little wear or aging. The stainless isn't as bright as it once was but it I don't spend much time cleaning it etc. My car isn't a show car. Only the 5 inch tip is polished the rest of the exhaust has a duller stainless finish.
It doesn't have any of that raspy fartcan Honda sound at all. Much deeper.

I have the 1G Thermal exhaust on 2 separate Talons. The only annoying thing about it is that it necks down to 2.5 inches at the catalytic converter, and I always end up cutting that damn neck off and welding a 3" flange on there so I can mate it to a high flow cat. On my black Talon (in my Avatar), the exhaust is deep but LOUD. I got pulled over by a State Trooper on a 4 lane highway because he thought it was too loud. I was just coasting along with no engine load, because I saw him there. It does not sound at all like a fart can, as others have said. Maybe it is the rest of my engine too, but this thing is so loud and deep (it has that almost subsonic rumble inside the car, one passenger asked me to turn off my subwoofers, which I DON'T have) that I want to quiet it down somehow. I can't hear my radio while driving.

"bmoha" thermal has since changed the flanges they are now 1/2" stainless, no more rust!

"eclipse 16G" try checking out any of the vendors listed on the site.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that thermal exhaust still neck down to 2.5" at the cat. This can be fixed by welding a 3in flange with some 3in tubing to mate with a downpipe that is 3in.
