I figured I would post this in the general forum, since it's not really my problem yet :p

I talked to a guy about a 2g talon tsi awd, and he says the car is fine, except for the bolts have broken off the alternator bracket (he said it needed a new bracket online, and when I talked to him on the phone, he said that the bolts had actually broken off).

He said they weren't stuck in there or anything, but also said that the system was still charging normally, and that the only problem, was that it would "clink" a little on LEFT turns.

He also said something in regards to the fact that talons were known to have alternator brackets are known to be a problem or something...which I can't say I've heard before.(which means little to nothing)

Now that I think about it, I think he said it was just the bolt on the block side.

Anyway, that sounds believable to me, I was just wondering if you guys agree w/ that assessment.

The car is just like 4-5 hours away, and depending on what/if I hear back from a couple other people, I might go take a look at it tomorrow. But if I'm going to look at it, I'm going, planning to buy it, and the only way I probably wouldn't, would be if there was a serious issue.

I'm just interested to see if you guys think this is something more serious to worry about, or maybe anything extra I should watch out for.

80k I think.

If it was just the block side one, I could kind of buy it, I think...

if it was walking, the ps steering should lock up on hard left turn, right?

I can check it out if I go there, b/c if everything is cool, then I think I can work out a pretty good deal.

The guy sounded kind of uninformed to be honest....mebbe just stoned :p

ad says it needs new alternator bracket.

When I talked to him, he said that this all talons have this alternator bracket problem. And then when I asked what the problem was exactly, he said: "uh, the bolts are broken...it's the bolt on the, umm, uhead, ummm" Then I said "you mean block?" and he said yes.

He again told me how this was a common problem, and when I asked, he said the bolt wasn't broken off in there, and that it made a clinking noise on left turns.

He said there was no walking issues, but obviously, who knows?

I don't necessarily know if he's bullshitin you or not? I personally have never heard of that being a common problem with DSMs. I don't think he really knows what he's talking about. Also, that is not a real big problem anyways. Just as long as there isn't any HIDDEN malfunctions then it should be alright, since you can get those bolts replaced. If you're planning on getting the job done at a dealership...you could possibly even set an appointment at a dealership in the same town where u bought the car and have them replace it before you take the drive back home and something get f-ed up. Just my thoughts.

Well, just picked it up today. Going to get the bracket and everything checked when I bring it up to Wisconsin next week. Very excited to be a new DSM owner.

Yes it is VERY VERY possible, I know because the bolts just broke off mine a month ago when i went to tighten the belt tensioner, It cost me a total of 14$ for the 2 bolts and bracket straight from Mitsu. if its the same one Im thinking of.

I live in Southern WI. Too many damn people looking for DSMs in this area seems to me. I'm having a hell of a time finding a nice one within a 2 hour radius of my house. a 1G turbo/awd/manual that is for somewhere in the 3500 range.
