I have a 2g GST and I immediately noticed as soon as I got the car a couple of months ago that the shifter was unusually high up from the console. My questions are, will a short shifter lower the height of it while it shortens the throw?

I have also heard that the 1g shifter are lower than the 2g is this true? If so would a 1g shifter fit my 2g?

What can I do to lower the shifter height?

The B&M short shifter will not lower the shifter, just shorten the throws. If you want to lower the handle to be lower than the radio slot, you'll have to cut a section out of the shifter and weld the top on lower to keep the threads.

The B&M is about ½" shorter. You can lower the knob a bit more by getting a shorter aftermarket knob, and tapping the threads almost all the way to the top of the knob, and then hog out the lower part of the hole so that it'll thread down further.
You can also grind down the shaft (not too far, as it's hollow) and cut threads into it if cutting and welding isn't a convenient choice.
