Just came across a deal...2g eclipse that someone did a turbo swap on. They got stuck on the wiring and have not gotten the car to run. I'm kind of Leary about a project like this. I noticed s couple of Bolt-ons and gauges. I didn't dig too deep but I'm not sure what to think or where I would start. I don't what they did to have problems with wiring unless its a 6 bolt? Supposedly theengine came from a talon......anyway he wants 1000. What are your opinions?

If I were you, I would "dig" deep into the car before purchasing it. 1000 dollars might seem like a good deal but normally is when you are buying someone else's headache that they just simply cannot complete. Did a shop install the engine? List of mods? Receipts for any type of work, parts purchased, etc.?

Try and get as much info as possible on what you are getting yourself into. Also, is this a GST/GSX chassis? Wiring isn't that big of a deal when it comes to swapping a motor as long as the one doing so is mechanically inclined. Find out as much as possible or else I'm sure you will end up parting ways with it as well.

nah...im plenty capable. i mean im not ase certified or anything but i can manage without being ridiculous or unsafe. Ive already got myself occupied with the project that i picked up a few mos ago. I was thinking that, while it did seem like an ok deal, I really wasnt sure that it wouldnt need a complete rewire. I dont know who did the swap or how inclined they are or what they have done. my mind was more made up then not. I just wanted to know what somebody else thought.

Thanks guys

So ive been doing some digging around. I went back and inspected this 95 eclipse further. Something about what the owner was saying, just wasnt right. It turns out that the information that he was providing wasnt accurate. Imagine that....considering he bought the car with no knowledge of dsms. This car started off as a gst, instead of n/t. Whew feeling better already.

Now all of the mods are making more sense. Ive been able to figure out that someone had just done a 6 bolt swap. the wiring that i did see was from the 1gb CAs. A couple of other wires were from a guage (pyrometer i think) that needed to be hooked up. so..the story goes.. they did the swap and didnt get it to fire up. Daddy (a police officer) made them sell before finishing. Since I had exposed him to my old AWD tsi, My buddy was salivating over this car by now.

I bought the car as a deal on a trade. Now we check into what has already been replaced. Man, the more we find the more exciting it is just to see if this thing will run. Findings: intake tube. aftermarket upper and lower i/c tubes, greddy type-s, MBC, downpipe, thermal exhaust, BIG 16g, boost..pyrometer..and cant remember other guage, short throw shifter. supposedly the bottom end has been beefed up. idk i guess time will tell.

anyway i just wanted to share. were about to start troubleshooting. Ill continue to search as much as possible.

If anyone cares to contribute any helpful links, knowledge, experience...please do. Lets see if we can get some life back into this thing

I would make sure they have the engine and transimission installed correctly. Also test this before driving around. Clutch Drag Kills Synchros! – Jacks Transmissions LLC

1G...94928 we did notice that the clutch pedal is sitting on the floor. Ill keep that tip in the back of my mind as we go over this thing.

update: My buddy (the new owner of the car) called me up and told that he noticed that the rear coil would start smoking after a few seconds of having power. And, we never did notice the sound of the fuel pump. We repeatedly go over the cam sensor wiring just to make sure that it was done correctly. wiring is good.

We start probing around and checking other possibilities. I had read that someone else had the triangular plug going to the wrong plug. We werent sure how this was possible, until we saw 3 of them. "Wait this coil pack looks like it could be plugged into the wrong spot". test for voltage now and get 0 voltage. We also pull the cam sensor for testing. nothing. Find a blown fuse. We disconnect the plugs and retest. Now we get voltage.

We have inspected the color code in the plugs, and traced the circuit between the cas and coils.
This is where we find the mismatch. So, finally we decide to make the switch. Reconnect the battery and turn the key on to check for power. BAM! we get power and no more smoke. So now we spin the cas by hand. Wooo! The fuel pump and the injectors have just come to life.

Reset the sensor and set the firing order the way that it should be for the swap. turn the engine over and we here that there is now spark. no start. hmmm. we pull the cam sensor and turn 180. recrank. backfire out of the exhaust. at this point we are happy to be getting somewhere. we set the plug wires for stock firing order. try again. Yess!!! it fires off. its running kind of rough. after some testing we notice that we are running on 2 cylinders. Apparently the coil that was getting hot, literally went up in smoke. we'll move on to the next problem as we wait for another coil pack.

Update: got the coils swapped out. Ran better but still missing. Found spark in all four. Stepped away and while I was gone my buddy freaked out and pulled the vc to look for bent valves. Everything good there. Figured #2 injector wasn't working. Swapped with another one just to make sure. Same symptom. Go to ecu and found the wire wasn't seated correctly. Reseat wire and idle smoothens out.

Now she's running like she should-ish. Next problem is
To get the clutch going. We power bleed, and nothing, no pedal. Repeat. Still nothing. Finally we cycle (pump) the hell out of the pedal and finally get it to pump up.

Now, the owner of the car can't wait to go for a test drive. We clean up and he goes down the road....tbc

so... after test driving we noticed that it was taking forever to spool up. Did a BLT. Found a couple of boost leaks and addressed. Checked for shaft play while we were in there. no play there. I finally talk my buddy into getting a timing gun. We get the timing set 5* BTDC. In case I havent mentioned it, by the state inspection and registration stickers, we noticed that this thing hasnt been on the road since somewhere around 07. The fuel in it is nasty and im trying to get him to replace it. Anyhow, The car is just running better and better. Also while driving we kept noticing that we could hear a loud whistling. We also couldnt hear the BOV between shifts. we found that the BOV was hooked up to what might the charcoal can.

We disconnect this line and run a direct hose to the intake manifold. we pull the wastegate arm and blow a little compressed air into it, just to make sure the diaphram is good. no leak there and preload is still good.
They have the MBC down by the lower i/c pipe. We disconnect the boost controller and get ready to move it when my buddy gets curious about how they work. This is where sometimes explaining just isnt enough, haha. So we take it apart. Upon taking it apart we noticed that the spring had doubled over somehow. Just to be sure, we blew air through the ports, reset the balls and spring, and reassembled.

Instead of relocating the boost controller we decided to put it back where it was and he goes for a test drive. he rolls out and blips the throttle...uhoh! tires slip and That car is starting sound like its supposed to. :hellyeah: We are definitely getting somewhere and the results are rewarding. He gets back from his test drive and is smiling from ear to ear like the kool-aid man if anybody remembers. Now the both of us go for a test drive as we have to reset the boost controller. Im driving as one of us watches boost and the other watches the rpms. Neither one of us has experienced the big 16g. my auto has the 13g still, and back in the day we didnt get any bigger than the 14b. So now were adjusting while trying to learn where boost comes in at.

Started off with over 20psi and backed it down to about 16 or 17. Ive been trying to explaing to the owner that he needs a fuel pump and injector upgrade and later a tune. I explain fuel cut but it doesnt matter. Another one of those things that he has to learn the hard way.... Here we go. Desired boost pressure, for the time being, is set. Now were cruising and drop to second. Pull through second and third gear is starting to pull like crazy....and then Bammm! OMG it feels like we just got rear ended. BY now this is scarey yet exciting. I know what just happened, but he doesnt. :D You can imagine the look on his face. His eyes are as big as the eyes on a guy who just sharted. "What just happened?" All I could do was grin and tell him that it was fuel cut :sneaky:. "whew. I thought we blew it up" Now we just turn around and mozy on back to the house.

Next.....bigger injectors, fuel pump, FMIC, some other odds and ends and hopefully hell get a way to tune
