Ok earlier last week I was driving my car and it was running fine...all of a sudden the tach started going crazy and jumping up and down and the car started misfiring really badly.....

i then pulled over and heard a loud clicking comming from under the dash area.....which leads me to believe this is a bad ecu but i pulled the ecu out just to check the caps and they werent leaking.....my buddy hooked up a computer to the car and it wouldnt let him read any codes (check engine was on) and it was giving him crazy readings like -40 degrees from the maf sensor and coolant temp sensor.....my car is undrivable right now.....what would cause this. Should i start with the TPS, alternator (heard that a bad alternator would make the power relay in the ecu go crazy and cause wierd problems) or just go ahead and buy a new ecu?

I'm hoping he does. I've looked at all kind of forums and no answers to be found. I've been stumped on the same exact problem for a month

my car was doing the same thing. it ended up being my crank shaft position sensor do to crank walk.

Can tell if your car has cranked walked if the sensor is hitting the crank pulley? And are there other issues that cause it?

the senor is mounted to the front case so it does not move. the plate that is mounted to the crankshaft is what runs into the senor. You can check the see if it walked by talking a screw driver or pry bar and pry the crankshaft toward the transmission. Then have someone push the clutch in and see if it moves at all. Not sure on the other issues that would cause those problems.

What did you do to solve the promblem

oh btw, i was browsing this thread because i too had this problem verbatim,

and i found out that my alternator was bad and i had not enough juice off of my battery, it drained my battery

My old Talon did the Crazy tach thing, then Jumped all over the place on the road, killing it self in gear, then running again cause it was in gear. Alot of back and forth jerking. I also had a relay clicking.

Turns out that a ground wire for my packs came off, and the relay was clicking, cause my non existing rear windshield was on.

Can anyone help on this issue?? I'm having the exact same problem
Crazy tach, can't rev past about 2-3k, and a relay clicking
What was the resolution??

Issue resolved, turned out it was a bad ground
Specifically the one that goes from the firewall to the intake manifold throttle cable
Mine was chewed up and torn
