So my buddy and I had recently picked up a 99 gst not running, and it has spark, and it cranks, but it is not getting fuel (disconnected line leading to rail and cranked, nothing). The car has been sitting for at least 3 1/2 years, so we pulled the fuel pump and completely drained the tank. We will be replacing the underhood fuel filter tomorrow. If that is not the problem, is there a way to check the pump while it is out of the tank and see if it works? Thanks and all suggestions welcome!

Connect it to your battery directly, I believe the FP runs off of a 12v source so you'll hear it working if it does indeed work. Don't test it too long though, you might burn it up because the fuel pump uses fuel to cool it.

Well if you disconnected the line to the rail and cranked nothing, that should tell you right there bad pump. Even when the ignition is turned on the pump runs pressurizing the system. I would take a volt meter and make sure you still have voltage going to the pump, then test the pump for operation.

I will test the pump that way. I heard if the fuel filter is dry, then it could block the fuel from getting to the rail. Am I correct?

Im going to put a new filter in with some fresh gas first and see what we get. Ill let you guys know, thanks.
