2g pistons 1g scat rods

Slowly but surely im getting things ready for the inevitable (130k). I purchased some used 2g pistons, along with some new scat 90-92 h-beam rods. My question is, these rods will have to be machined to work with the 2g pistons. Would i be better off spending some money on new pistons that are made for these rods, or will 2g pistons be fine? I realize that aftermarket 2g pistons will then work on these rods, but its that extra HP im looking to make.

Ok, reading through some info, EVO pistons are useable since they are similar to 2g pistons. The only difference I am seeing is they are a higher compression, and lighter. Is there any other differences? It's the same displacement, so I dont see a problem there. TIA.

The 2g piston on 1g or aftermarket rods is a common 500hp safe combo.

But yes, the 1g 6 bolt Scat rods wrist pin hole needs to be machine to fit the 2g 7 bolt pistons. The pistons have a 22mm pin, the rods have a 21mm pin.

thanks dan. i had read that the combo was a good way to start, do you, or anyone know of the 1g rod evo piston combo?

Seems to me with machining, rings and so on you'd be better off just buying a set of aftermarket pistons and they'd be stronger too.

I agree with 1fast97gsx. You could just get stock 1g rods resized and shotpeened, and fitted with arp rod bolts, and snatch a set of wiseco's (8.3, or 9:1) and call it good. The wiseco/big rod combo won't hold massive numbers over the 2g pistons, but they will be more forgiving as far as knock/tuning goes than the 2g cast pistons.
