Well let me start off by saying that last sunday was very eventfull for me. I came across a deal on a 1g awd for $200 with a spun bearing. The same night I was driving around in my 2g and and my friend and I decided to go driving around in the mountains. Well I went around a corner too fast and wrecked my prized 2g.

So now What I want to do is pull my built 7 bolt and freshly rebuild awd 2g tranny and drop them both in the 1g. Now I know the 1g has 3 motor mounts, 1 tranny mount while the 2g has 3 tranny mounts and 1 motor mount. There is no place to put the radiator side mount in the 2g 7 bolt like the 1g motor has. But it looks like the back off the block (firewall side) has 2 threaded holes for something like a mount. I just want to know if anyone else has tried to do this swap and what you had to do to get the front and back rollstop mounts to work.

You should be able to bolt the 1g mount to that 2g block.... like you said it looks like you can do. I believe that the 7bolt blocks that are in the 1g's are using that same mount and when they went to 2g's they started using a different trans mount.

But what I'm saying is that the radiator mount wont mount to the front of my 7bolt but it will mount to the tranny on that side. And I'm not doing a hack job. I just wanna put a motor that has been fully built with forged internals that I have had a lot of luck with into a good car now that my 2g will need extensive body work. Has anyone ever tried this?

so I'm guessing no one has tried this. I pulled the 6 bolt out of the 1g today and guess what, The 6BOLT WALKED! I'm starting not to believe what everyone says about 7bolts because I have never had an issue with it and after seeing a 6bolt walk I have no faith in them

LOL any engine can walk the crank. My current 6-bolt had thrust bearing failure. As long as the crank doesn't come in contact with the block then you can put new bearings and either machine the crank or get a new crank to fix the problem.

I don't see why everyone blows "Crankwalk" out of proportion!

Anyways, good luck with your project. I think the major hurdle is going to be motor mounts. I know the 2g trans will work on a 6 bolt in a 1g. As for the 2g 7 bolt block? :idontknow:

I would be very cautious about using only the (3) mounts rear and side. The Front and rear ones are the most important as they take most of the abuse from the torque these monsters put down.

unfortunately the crank did rub against the block. I pulled off the center main cap and it looks like the thrust part of the bearing is completely missing and there is a deep grove cut into the cap from the crank. You could literaly pry the crank half an inch back and forth. A friennd of mine said that In his colt he just uses a piece of ange iron for his front mount so I may try to do something like that. Then the motor wont be able to move at all.

Can you take a picture of what you're talking about?

If a 1g motor goes into a 2g car.... what is keeping the 2g motor from going to the 1g? Also, dont' listen to people saying "don't try that, do this instead," like that guy up there did.

People use solid front motor mounts and these restrict the movement of the motor, so I'm sure if you were to do something like this it would be "ok".
