i looked on vfaq and the installation seems rather simple. I noticed that they said you should run 550's or a SAFC. Do I need a SAFC and 550's to use the 2g maf. Is installing a 2g maf really worth it and how easy is it to actually do?

You do not have to swap injectors if you have a SAFC.

A couple benefits:
1) A 2G MAF is less likely to be overrun by high boost levels, where a 1G MAF would. It is capable of measuring more air before the signal it sends to the ECU starts to degrade.

2) 2G MAFs are larger than the 1Gs, so they are less restrictive on the intake side. This benefit is negligible IMHO, but hey, every bit helps.

If you put in 550's at the same time you install a 2G MAF, you might be able to get away with no SAFC if you have a logger to watch things and make sure nothing bad is going on.

I would not advise using the 2g maf without an AFC.

You'll run a pretty good deal lean.

I was once told that 550's and a 2g MAF are a wash, but i was told by a more informed member that the 2g's MAF readings vary quite a bit, so you'll definitely need an AFC to get the best out of it.
