2g Knock sensor in a 1g

Or you get a DSMchip so you can see it as it's knocking. But other than DSMlink there is now way to log it on a 2G.

well, a friend of mine whom is very familiar with 4g's said that a 2g knock sensor will work, plug right in and is better than the 1g, because the 1g knock sensor has a small opening in the end of it wich makes it extremely sensetive, so much so that a loose bolt or something like that could make enough noise to trigger it and pull timing, And that the 2g knock sensor is the same exept it does not have the small opening in the end of it, and therefor is not as sensative. This is all what he has told me, and given his rep here with dsm, i believe him. but if anyone can prove different then im all ears. i have a 1g knock sensor in my hand and it does have the opening, but i have not seen a 2g knock sensor out of the block so, yeah.

I tried one off of a '98 GST on my 92 Laser. It did not work. I immediately got the CEL with the knock sensor code and everything that goes with it.

gotcha, i will def let him know that thats been tried, and failed. He also said something about usung a non-turbo 4g ecu from a 94 eclipse, supposedly it is an eprom, and can be used with 1g turbo cars as long as u solder wire in the knock sensor, and that they are better because the caps in them dont burn out like the oldr ecu's which sounds like bs to me but, ecu's are too damn expensive for me to experiment with that.
