I have a 1992 eclipse N/A and I needed a new head for it. I found a 1995 4g63T head for real cheap and i was wondering other than the intake ports being a different size, what do i need to do in order to bolt the 2g turbo head on my non-turbo 1g engine?

Are there not allignment pins in the block? If the bolts are only used to hold the head down? No? This will be my first head swap but i remember hearing something about allignment pins.

2G head studs are 11mm and need to be opened up to 12mm and if course the obvious a different intake manifold.

why just tell me why!!!! why go through the trouble?
:banghead: :aha:

Having to drill out the head stud holes a whole 1mm and find an intake manifold? Enough people out there getting rid of a stock IM you can find one cheap or even better find one off an EVO3. The "trouble" is worth it IMO considering the 2G head has better flow like stated. If your going to argue that the you need to call Curt Brown, Kiggly, AMS, and Magnus why they are wrong. :aha:

Thanks, I never would have thought of modifying the oil port. And as far as the intake goes, will everything from the 1g manifold bolt right up to the 2g/evo3 intake???

yeah aside from the actual port size difference between the two...everything else is pretty much the same...you'll have no problem getting the throttle body and stuff to mate up.

And there are more reasons than just availability and price to do a 2g head swap on a 6 bolt 4g63...the 2g heads flow much better...the 1g head ends up being the bottleneck in high horsepower applications (after you've changed to a 90mm throttle body)

I just re-read the OP. First question, what engine is that non-turbo? 4g63 or 4g64?

I AM NOT a non-turbo expert but believe it will take a lot more work than just bolting a head on. The manifolds may not even fit.

If you have the 4g64, yes the head will fit, people do it all of the time to get 2.4 turbo block. But timing belt are different, and you may have to buy a cable to convert your timing signal to something your car understands and will still bolt to the new head.

I suggest first find exactly which engine you have then read everything you can here before jumping into this.

Which manifold are you talking about. The exhaust manifold is the same on all 4g63s. He is on a 92 so he will have a 4g63. The timing belt is the same it's just different components, mainly the tensioner. Bow will he need to convert his signal differently? He will be needing to put his 1g CAS in place. It's not a 2g harness which uses the cam AND crank angle sensor.

I clearly stated that I was NOT a non-turbo expert but quick search brings this up.:

1992 Eclipse: Base FWD model equipped with a 92 hp naturally-aspirated engine 1.8 L 8-valve SOHC 4G37 engine

Are you saying that a 4g37 and 4g63 are the same engine and all manifolds as well as the head fits?
