2g GSX sputtering - just got this car

okay, so my bro just purchased a GSX from a kid. we've had this car for like 4 days.. seriously. according to my brother he was just driving down the right at about quarter throttle maybe and it just started to sputter a ton. it idles okay, a little higher than normal, but okay. he's also not driven this thing hard at all yet.

here's the mods
-FP Ported BIGT28
-Apexi 3" down pipe
-Precision Turbo 680 Injectors
-255 Wal. hf fuel pump
-Custom cat back
-NGK wires and plugs
-Apexi S-AFC II
-Bomz intake
-Voodoo Boost Controller
-SARD AFPR
-Apexi intercooler piping
-Greddy Type-S BOV
-and gauges and whatever else

any idea? it's still getting a reading on the boost gauge.
 
really? i was told it will. i'll look into it then. but would that really matter since the apexi is pretty much it's own computer that can adjust and whatever else?

Yeah, I have a SAFC-II and I have no CEL so there is def. something wrong.

I see you have a 255 pump most people tend to get a afpr when they get this full pump. just an idear

They said they have a Sard FPR. But indeed, might want to check that out as well on if it is running the right pressure.

okay, well, we have an air/fuel gauge. however, it's not hooked up right now. we're going to work on that tomorrow and see what we can get out of it. it smells really rich

Don't bother unless it's a lamda gauge and you have a wideband O2 sensor. The stock narrowband O2 sensor will only tell you that you are richer than stoich or leaner than stoich and very crudely if you're close to stoich. If you smell gas in the exhaust, you're rich, so the narrowband+A/F gauge will just tell you what you already know.

Get the CEL looked at. Limp to an Autozone and have them read the code. Maybe they'll let you borrow it to take home. Or if you know someone with a logger, borrow that and the cable. It'll take you 10 seconds to read the code.

Everyone's recommending the same things to you, so that should be a hint.

No no no, I meat the fuel pressure regulator. See if it is running the correct fuel pressure at idle. Because if it is too high there, then it will just be worse the rest of the RPM range.
 
i feel pretty damn stupid right now. we were bored so we decided to just go ahead and check the plugs to see how they looked. the kid before us was running iridiums and they were as black as could be. my bro just left to get some bpr7es plugs. hopefully that fixes everything LOLz

i'll report back to let you guys know if that fixes it. should have checked that first, i feel like an idiot.

LOL!! Yeah, we have DSMs. Our mind immediately jumps to "severe problems" as soon as something goes wrong. Hopefully new plugs will fix the sputtering. If it persists, then do all the stuff we told you to again (LOL).

Do an extra BLT just to be sure before you start her up with the new plugs :thumb:.
 
welp, damnit, the plugs didn't help.

we have a kid who knows dsms better than we do coming over sometime soon probably so we'll have him check it out.

also, it's smoking. i don't know if i mentioned that.
 
I would definitely remove the inner pannel on the driver's side to make sure that your SAFC is wired in correctly. Speaking from experience, I wired mine in wrong and to sum up my cars performance in a few words, it sucked. I would got a CEL, I sputtered and got horrible gas mileage among other symptoms.

Fortunately, I cross-referenced my buddies Talon that has an SAFC and found that mine was wired incorrectly. I re-wired it and wouldn't you know it....no more problems. Good luck and I hope it's an easy fix!

^^^Good idea. For the guy that is coming over to your house, if he has a SAFC, warn him that you might have to rip apart his car.

I still say check your base fuel pressure too. Just to even rule it out. And if it is not, then it is most likely your SAFC. Geez I hate these things. Thank god I am about to switch :D
 
I say to check spark plugs
Check the top and bottom IC pipes especially the plastic ones they can have a hole in them and check the vac lines
Oh yea the maf could be ####ed also

When my car was doing that the maf and the bottom ic pipe had a hole in it
