hey guys i owned alot of dsm's and been working on them for alone time but that what happend to be today i dont get..i have a 1997 gs-t turbo 5speed fwd..i was talking to my friend and the car was running for about 20 min then i shut off the car cause of these gas prices ;-/ 10 min later when i was done talking to him i go to start my car and it idled like sh*t and stalled tried 3 more times and it stayed running but running like crap ..i knew it wasnt running on all 4 cyl so i unplugged each fuel injector one by one and cly 2-3 were'nt running..so i was like balls what im i gonna do now ..so i hop in the car with it runing crappy hop on the highway and 2 min into the drive it runs good again ..any idea why ..car has an s-afc stock injectors 14b 255 fuel pump..nothing else all stock...:confused:
 
no its not the injectors..when the car is running i check the plugs and no spark on cyl 2-3 ...only 1 and 4 are firing
 
I have'nt replaced anything yet ..like i said before this happend lets week and it been fine ever since..i dont know what to replace..i have a spare coil pack and ignatior in my trunk so when this happeds again i will swap them out ...i already swapped out ecu's and that was'nt the problem ..so its gonna be one of them thing i dont know :barf:
 
kind of odd that its an intermittent problem. but jsut incase its still doing it id say its the power transistor going out. i had the same problem and it was my power transistor aka control module. i had spark on 1 and 4 but not 2 and 3. the power transistor is bolted to the head next to the coil pack on the belt side of the engine. here is how to test it as per crummy haynes manual...

to check the side of the power transistor that affects 1 an 4, connect an ohmmeter between terminals 3 and 8 there should be no continuity. when a 1.5 volt battery is connected between terminals 3 and 7 there should be continuity. DO NOT USE MORE THAN 1.5 VOLTS FOR THIS TEST....AND DO NOT CONNECT THE 1.5 VOLT BATTERY FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS AT A TIME OTHER WISE THE POWER TRANSISTOR COULD BURN OUT. to check the side of the power transistor that affects 2 and 3 connect an ohmmeter between terminals 1 and 3. there should be no continuity. when a 1.5 volt battery is connected to therminals 2 and 3 there should be continuity. if the power transistor fails either test replace it.
 
I am not a dsm wizard but I have seen a lot of coils go bad.... Coils will start acting funny when they are hot....Sometimes after they cool down they will work fine then warm up again and start to short out again they will keep doing this until finally the coil shorts out completely......I believe your car could have a bad coil even if it started getting better as you drove it the one day because the wind was blowing on it to help cool it down.....It gets hotter just after shut off from the heat of the motor with no wind subsiquently breaking down from the heat then after sitting for a while cools off and works fine.....Hope it helps.....If you test it make sure its hot, It will probably test fine cold.........
 
I am having the same problem on my 1g tsi,

Replaced CAS(3), PT(2), Plugs, wires, coils,checked all fuses, MDI and such i was told to do still hasnt fixed the problem, picking up a rebuilt ECU see if it fixes it. was running on 1 and 4 for the longest time, got back from college started it up np at all. Swapped DSM jdm cyclone ran good for two days, went out of the garage came back one day running on 1 and 4 . Nothing tuched at all just died, new coils, low mileage cas, new plugs , new wires, tested pt than back to 1 and 4 driving me crazy so buying a new ecu ROFL :cry:
 
hey brothers the problem is still there :( it just happpend today again it was fine for 2 months i had this car for 7 months and this problem happend 3 times to me ..i had a spare coil pack and ignatior in my trunk..i swapped them out with the spares and still the same problem ..so lets see i swapped out all this things .....ecu,coil pack,ignatior,wires plugs..what else can it be?? help help :cry: ...this is what happend drove to the gym car ran fine packed the car for 2 hours i can out started the car and was running on 2 cylinders..20 min later it was fine ..what a mess
 
ok guys this is really starting to pissed me off..i just did a timming belt for a friend of mine he has the same car 97gst after we change it we to go to start the car and it to is only running on cylinder 2-3 1and 4 are dead ..we did a compression check on the car 160 across the board what can it be..i have this same problem on my 97gst but cant figure out what gives..some one gonna know
