I have search a bit on this issue and I have seen a lot of people have it on 2g eclipse.

here is my problem, I have tons of travel on my clutch pedal. Like 3/4 down before it engages. It engages like one inch off the floor. Scary actually as sometimes it is difficult to get into reverse it grinds sometimes. Shifting is sometimes notchy.

it gets more spongy as it is cold. It firms up a bit and grabs maybe 2-2.5 inches off the floor after 20 minutes of driving.

I have looked at adjusting the clutch pedal, but at the moment it works so I don’t want to mess with it as I need it to get to work. But I am concerned.

Any recommendations?

bleed the clutch, adjust the pedal? I have tons of play in it. I’m at a loss atm. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

It sounds like you need to start with bleeding the slave cylinder. From there, you may need to adjust the clutch pedal to ensure you're not getting what is referred to as "pump up". This involves backing the clutch switch up enough so it doesn't prevent the clutch master cylinder from returning all the way to its neutral position.

Speaking of the clutch switch, previous owner said he lost or the black housing broke, so he fixed it and also has a by-pass switch to dis engage the clutch button. I have to look under there at the pedal assembly, but could that be the culprit it’s to far up, causing the clutch pedal to go all the way up towards the driver this extending the master or salve cylinder? I mean I literally have know clutch pedal “pressure” until I get the clutch 2 inches off the floor or less. I would like it to engage higher. Or at least not feel dead for 90% of the travel.
Thanks for the reply will look into those things

Any leaks in the clutch hydraulics? How's the fluid level in your reservoir and did you ever let it go empty? Does it get any better if you pump it?
I'd be careful about driving it like this or you might quickly wear out the synchros in the trans.

Doesn't sound like adjustment. Sounds like at a minimum bleeding issues. More severe would be the need to replace Master or slave or possibly both. You should not have a dead pedal ever.

I have to look more into it I’m currently at work. But I agree bleeding the clutch probably the first step. Might have some air in there, or leak somewhere. I do have some dot 3 brake fluid at home unopened so might flush out the old and bleed the clutch.
The slave is in the engine bay right on top the trans by the trans cables? Or is it underneath the car?

It's actually on the front and a little underneath of the trans. It's easiest to get to it underneath the car, unless you want to remove your air can and snorkel.
