Resolved 2G Dipstick length

I just bought a TSI awd I want to know how long the dipstick is? Mine is cracked. Can you measure the metal only. Also do I read it cold or hot. Should it be to the top line?

always read oil when the car is cold and when on a flat for best readings and the factory dipstick has to holes and you want your level to be directly in between, it doesn't need to be perfect it can be more towards one or the other just never above the top hole or below the bottom hole.

I agree with above post but i would always stay high on that upper hole not over it though just 5qts is what it needs

Im not sure on the length of the dipstick though

Yeah I try to keep mine as close to the max dot as possible without going over. Like said before always measure it when the engine is cold and on a flat surface for an accurate reading

i just measured the dipstick on my 97 get and its 1'4-3/4 inches in length and thats from going to the bottom of the dipstick plastic bevel, so thats the length of only the metal.

Just measured by 99 GST. It's 16 3/4" long as nick97dsm says. From the where the metal meets the plastic bevel to the full notch it's 15 1/4" and 16" to the low notch.

Just an FYI you can pick up an OEM dipstick from companies like STM and ExtremePSI for $20. If you look on eBay you will find it even cheaper. I purchased mine brand new OEM for $12.
