Helloo, I just came across this kit that i needed for my 99 gsx auto. Got a good price for it so I jumped on it. Now to me this kit seems good but just want another opinion on whether I need any other parts.

Parts are numbered from left to right.
1. Timing Belt 2. Balance Shaft Belt Tensioner 3. Idler Pulley 4. Water Pump

5. Crank Seal 6. Balance Shaft Seal 7 & 8. Cam Seals

9. Balance Shaft Belt 10. Valve Gasket

I'd just like to verify if what i have listed above matches the parts in the picture. This is my first Eclipse and want to get it right.

Thanks.

No belt tensioner? Are these oem parts or what? Everything looks legit other than the seal on the left, that isn't a seal that goes on the timing side of these engines.

These are not OEM parts, I'm on a very tight budget and going the OEM way was out of my league.
Would the belt tensioner be vital to this replacement?

Not necessarily. Depends how long it has been since the last replacement, if its been less than 60k, you should be good for awhile. It is recommended for any 60k timing job though by Mitsubishi. Pain in the ass to go back in do it later, so id go ahead and get one now, if you can. I am worried about what timing belt you got in that kit more so than the tensioner. Where did the kit come from? If you can't afford the oem belt, id try going with this belt:
4G63 4G63T 2.0 16-Valve DOHC Timing Belt Mitsubishi and Hyundai
People have had good success with it, and its cheap. It's basically an OEM belt made under another label. Proven over a number of years now. I ended up going with a better belt, but I strongly considered using this in my car based on my research.

The belt is from a brand called ITM, Don't know how good it is but I will check out the other belt that you provided. Thanks for the input.

those seals in bags are not for the 4G63. they are for different versions of mitsubishi engines. its just a mass bulk package when packing these kits (somehow it makes it cheaper).

the water pump from that kit is ok. its from the same makers of GMB, which they make alot of OEM parts.

those pulleys are fine as well. although the tensioner pulley's holes are about a millimeter wider than the OEM ones, which in turn causes the tensioner tool (MD998767) not to fit without modification(slightly grinding the inside diameter of both pins will then fit).

that timing belt is garbage. so is the balance shaft belt. I wouldn't even think about using those belts unless you want to risk everything you got.

that baggy of 0-rings is also useless. there is nothing you will use in that bag that you need those small orings. as a matter of fact, not even rebuilding the engine you need any of those small o-rings.

Its funny that you bought it, THEN ask for advise. chances are you will use it anyways because you already spent you money, specially when you said you are on a tight budget.

You already wasted money on parts that you don't need, and shouldn't use. OEM is the only way to go on these engines if you dont want to redo all your work in a short time.

if you have to go cheap on a belt, I recommend goodyear's gatorback timing belt kit found here http://www.summitracing.com/parts/GTR-GTK0167A/

then a OEM hydraulic tensioner here:

Thanks for the info, i'll be selling this kit and getting the gatorback :)

I am unbiast so for the sake of review and researchability I will show you that this community also hates gatorbacks.

You should make you own choice, but its up to you to make the final decision based on experience and what you think would work best for YOU. I have no complaints w/ gatorback timing belts but thats just a cheap alternative other than OEM.

I would stay away from the gatorback belt. You can get the gates kit from rockauto.com with both belts and all 3 pullies for like 60 bucks.

Yea I just saw that kit. AHHHH!!! I'm going to have to sit down and and compare a bunch of different sites. Thanks for all the help guys much appreciated.

For a timing belt, I would NOT cheap out on one of those. I'd get Gates, Greddy, HKS, or OEM. I've seen 1,000hp DSM's with OEM timing belts, so you definitely cannot go wrong there.

That is the one thing you should never cheap out on. I would risk driving the car with the current timing belt rather than using one of those kits.
