So, with winter coming I'm looking at getting some snow tires. I figure this year, I'll get a dedicated set of winter tires, studs and all, but to keep the cost down I want to run 16" rims.

Trouble is, I don't know what vehicles have 16" steelies with the correct offset/brake clearance.

What vehicles should I go looking for in the junkyard to pull some 16" steelies off?

I've somehow acquired (6) full sets of rims to use between (3) DSM's. I have (2) sets of painted 2G 5-stars, (1) set of chrome 2G 5-stars, (1) set of '92 alloys with the angled spokes, (1) set of '95 TSi swirlies, and (1) set of 17" alloys from a Dodge Avenger. The '95 TSi swirlies are my official winter rims as they have studded snow tires on all four. All of these were either bought very cheap or donated.

Steel or alloy, you shouldn't have to look too hard to find wheels that would work for a reasonable price.

You haven't lived until you've driven an AWD DSM in the winter snow with four meaty studded snow tires. You literally feel invincible; brick walls are all that will stop you!

I ran a "winter biased" all-season tire the last 2 winters in Erie, PA. Last year we got blasted with 146" worth. I never got stuck.

I passed EVERYTHING on my trips up and down I-79 during the winter. It was like it was on rails.

This year might be a little different though. A little more power, a little more driving, and a lot more steep hills. Hence my decision to finally go to a dedicated winter tire.

I think I can put them on November 1st, but I haven't double checked yet.

EDIT:
I got stuck once the winter after I bought my car. It had a worn out set of Eagle RS-A tires on it. I ended up climbing a snow drift and bottoming out while doing donuts in a parking lot on my way home from work.
