Does anyone know how to get #2 and #3 apart? I'm starting to replace my wheel bearing but am stuck.

The axle won't come out of the assembly either. I think I am hosed. Anyone have any ideas? I have a 20ton press here, but no dice.

Thanks.

First take off the castle nut. Then remove the four bolts on the back of the knuckle that hold the hub assembly. Then start banging and pulling. It won't be fun on a salt-belt car.

(When I tried to swap in long studs, I could only get two of the four bolts loose. I ended up cutting 10mm off the long studs and slipping them in without removing the hub.)

Mega press.

ps. when I replaced a front last month, I learned that they are no longer sold separately

Loosen the 4 bolts holding it to the hub. Take the castle nut off and thread it on backwards so you don't mushroom the end of the axle. Then get one of those gigantic pullers that you bolt onto your hub and tighten by smacking with a hammer. Tighten it down and beat the heck out of it. The take the sledge and beat on the axle end some. Then tighten the puller...then beat on the axle some more...get it? Keep doing this back and forth for about 2 1/2 hours and it will come off. You will be very sweaty and tired. Make sure you drink some beer to calm your nerves so you don't throw too many tools.

Once you have it off take pieces 2 and 3 to a shop to have them press the new one on.

issue now is belle tire tried to get the axle out with an air hammer, the castle nut won't go on because there literally aren't any threads. I've been driving on this for months now, I have no worries because it's rusted together so badly.

I'm thinking about drilling and tapping the end where the threads should be and use a proper bolt and big washer. Finding a rear axle is honestly impossible.

I have SOME 2G parts kicking around if your in desperate need but I would prefer to hold onto them. I just did a rear bearing myself. Getting it out wasn't to bad just used a big puller and a little heat. The bearing its self is seperate from the hub it requires a press to remove the 2 parts. I have a 30 ton press at my shop so it was a snap for me to do this. Mine is a salt belt car but hasn't seen winter in 4 years since I bought the car. Make damn sure when it goes back togeather you use alot of anti-sieze.

Desperate need isn't the word, you have no idea. PM me with what you got, it will help a TON.

I have the bearing and a spare hub. Everything else is on the car and doesn't want to come apart.

Can't drive anything nice in Michigan...

Also they messed my girlfriends up pretty bad so I bought a tap for the axle shaft and re threaded it. It worked good and it has held together perfect.
No, I mean there's literally nothing there. There is no metal to rethread, they used an air hammer and chipped at least an inch of the axle (all of which had the threads) on to the shop floor.

If I have to, I'll get it all back together and have it welded rather than use a nut. I don't know what else to do other than get a new axle $$.

I have a feeling that I'm going to be doing this before long as I have a whine coming out of the drivers side rear. My castle nut is pretty much un-recognizeable at this point. Not only do I live in the NE corner of PA, the guy I picked it up from let it sit outside for about a year and a half.

Anyway, I'm planning on just ordering a new axle and hub assembly. I'm a little confused at this point as I'm not sure exactly what I'll need. Not to hijack the post but if anyone has a good vendor for axles, let me know. I looked at raxles but they don't have much of a website as far as their products go. Additionally, I found what I believe I need for a hub replacement at the following link.

Napa Hub Assembly

Thanks for any input.
