So my mechanic and I finally pulled out the engine in my 90 Eagle Talon, The person who had sold me the car told me that the car had a 93 Engine out of an Eclipse, 4G63 which is the 7 Bolt of course. (sounds fishy..I know)

Well, It's not a 7 bolt..Haha. It's infact a 6 Bolt. Well..that's a kink in my plans since I already had a 7 bolt engine ready to go in given by a friend who wrecked his 2g Talon.

Would this swap be hard? and would minor or extreme mods be needed for everything to work right? :banghead:

There are quite a few factors:

90s have a different CAS than the 2g and also the 91-92 6bolts are different.
You will also have to work with a 2g wiring harness or swap a 1g over some how.
Also you will need to figure out how to deal with the obd1 vs obd2 problems.

I am sure there are others but that's just the start.

If you have a 7 bolt 1g block the swap it easy then.

oh yea, 2g in the US never came with a NT 4g63.

I have seen this popping up more, I would gather that 6 bolts are getting hard to come by, but 7 bolts abound.

I would probly look at the 6bolt swap threads and reverse it.

Now, maybe the PO did the 7 bolt HEAD swap on to a 6 bolt bottom end?

The 2g blocks dont have the motor mounts on the block, thier on the trans! That being said theres not really a way to put the block into a 1g.

sorry to hack your thread.

what if a 2g tranny is used as well?

im thinking about doing a 2g 7 bolt swap in my 2g, why? because thats what i have and have no money, does anybody know what do i need to modify in order to make the mounts work?

A 2g 7 bolt into another 2g?

Update: Haha, That's what I get for using my laptop in the dark. I had meant to say 1G* My friend had a 1G Talon, A 93 to be exact. I apologize for that.

But My question I guess remains the same..since the car has a 6 bolt set up, What would I have to change to have the 7 bolt fit and run? Obviously the Oil Pan and Flywheel..How about the clutch?

If it is a 2g 7 bolt than it isn't going to work. As stated there are no holes on the front of the block for the front roll stop. There are holes on the rear of the block for the rear mount, just not the front. If it is a 1g 7 bolt than it will bolt in as the 6 bolt came out. You just need the 7 bolt flywheel from a fwd or awd depending on whether or not your car is fwd or awd.

It is indeed a 1g 7 bolt engine and FWD, So I just need the accompanying flywheel?

Id hope so..Taking my friend's engine would bump me up on having my car running sooner than possible.

Piston 2, and Crankshaft problems plague the 6 bolt we took out..:(

Being that it is a 1g 7 bolt and you have a fwd, just get the fwd 7 bolt flywheel and everything will bolt together just as you took the 6 bolt out. The only thing that won't bolt to the 7 bolt engine is the 6 bolt oil filter housing, your 90 should have the air cooled oil cooler, the 91+ cars use a water cooler oil cooler. Just use the oil housing and cooler that is already on the 7 bolt.

The 2g (7 bolt) into a 1g 6 bolt frame? Hmm will need to check into a custom fabbed front roll stop or crossmember. Will have to run a 1g cas, which should be easy as you will have the wiring for it ( given you are using the 1g harness with paired cas. Idk just some things that came to mind. Also
6 and 7 bolt have same clutch.
Fwd flywheel is different than awd
6 bolt trans and 7 bolt trans are interchangable
2g trans is prefferred as it is beefier
6 bolt front case and oil filter housing and different than 7 bolt.

Hope some of this info helps figured i would throw it in

Oil cooler comments refer to turbo engines only as the non-turbo engines (which I'm assuming the OP has because of the vehicle in his profile) didn't come with oil coolers. Minor detail. ;)

Yep..I do in fact have the NT version of the 4G63, atleast for now..haha. But heck yes! You all have answered all my questions and then some. I appreciate it. :hellyeah:

Now that I think about it, Should the 6 bolt oil pan fit onto the 7 bolt engine?

Now to get the said flywheel. Any suggestions on OEM sellers online? Local options are as slim as Kate Moss.

No, you'll need a 7-bolt oil pan for the 7-bolt engine. That one is curved under the crank sprocket where the 6-bolt is flat to match the respective oil pumps.

For the flywheel, check the classifieds on here or MitsubishiGraveyard.com for used; JNZtuning.com or ExtremePSI.com (with part number MD190911) for OEM new (expensive); or Rockauto.com, OReilly, NAPA, Autozone, or any of the other neighborhood part stores for an off-brand if they have them.

Well, Here's an update. I have ordered all of the parts I needed, and most have arrived with the exception of the flywheel and crankshaft seal kit. Which should arrive tomorrow. The work will start on the Talon too...Soo...I'm curious as to what oil I should use...or I should say the BEST oil I should use for my 7 Bolt motor. It has around 90k Miles..I appreciate all responses. :) :hellyeah:
