Well, I have a 98 gsx that walked and I put main bearing in it just to have it running again but it is walking again which I planned on. I found a 93 running motor for $250 and just wondering about what all is need to drop it in the 98. I have heard that all the 7 bolt blocks had a place for a crank sensor, is that true or just a theory? I also have a n/t 6 bolt motor that the timing belt broke and I was thinking of putting it in the 98 with the 98 head. I'm asking for the process to drop in the 1g 7 bolt and any opinion on the n/t block and 98 head. I do know that the 98 head would have to be drilled to fit the 6 bolt block and that I will change the pistons and freshen up the 6 bolt block before i drop it in. Thanks for all of your help.

1g 7 bolt is different from a 2g 7 bolt. Just follow the 6 bolt procedure; 1g 7 bolt is basically just as good as the 7 bolt. Also if you were to use the N/t block i would go with forged internals because they run a higher compression ratio.

I'm running a 1G 7-bolt block on my '95 with a 2G crank angle sensor and cam sensor. All 7-bolt front cases are the same (92-99) which means they all have a spot for the crank sensor. 6-bolt cases don't have provisions for the crank sensor, but 7-bolts all do that I've seen unless I've missed something over the years.

Now cam sensor is another deal where as I'm not sure if you are going to swap your head or figure something else out, but I wanted to clear up that misinformation about the crank.

Follow the directions for swapping a 6-bolt like normal where you trim your motor mount, and other stuff, but you should be able to reuse your crank sensor.

Last year I had my '95 GSXs block spin a bearing and had a 7-bolt out of a '93 GSX in my garage for several years I decided to use. I swapped the rods and pistons from my 2G block, put in new bearings and did the normal trimming of the motor mount to get it in the car. I swapped my 2G head onto the 1G block and connected everything as I normally did. Had to swap coolant pipes and the rest of the normal stuff, but sensors all connected as if it were the normal block.

Hope this helps...feel free to ask questions.

I might have some pics on FullyBoosted Motorsports if I ever got them all up there. It was a while ago and I forget if I got all the pics up.

Well if I do go with the 6 bolt I was going to set it up for the turbo, lower compression ratio. I'm still up in the air about it cause the oil squirters not being in the n/t blocks, but i have seen a built semi motor with and without the oil squirters. I know the oil squirter help and can cause problems if they get stopped up. Thanks for your input so far and looking forward to more help. Not all the 7 bolts the same cause the thrust washer setup in the 97-99 which in my eyes and my local engine builder was the dumbest design change they could have done.
