Cambridge,
tried search but couldnt find it..

within the 2nd gen 4g63T.. is there any differences in the engine configuration?

someone said the oil return line location is different.. some have it on the oil pan and some on the lower part of the block.. if thats true, anyone know which year is which?

is there any other difference in the engine compartment for the 2nd gen?

Yep. What he said ^^^. Only thing I can think of is that the 95-96 2g didn't have a CAS whereas the 97-99 did. Other than that, they should be identical.

Newb question CAS?

Both cam angle sensor and crank angle sensor. 1g motors only have a cam angle sensor which is mounted on the passenger side of the intake cam. 95-96 turbos have their cam angle sensors built-in to the intake cam gear, whereas 97-99 have it in the same location as the 1g motors. All 95-99 turbos have a crank angle sensor mounted via a trigger plate on the crankshaft sprocket.

i know that 1g had 7 bolt motors 4g63T motors.. does the 1g have different oil return line location??

Not all are, 7 bolt is from may 1992 --> 1994 in 1gen dsm, before that all 1g were with 6bolt

I don't have any pics...I've got a 6-bolt. Here is a link to RREs head swap instructions. They have some pics of where the cam angle sensor is on the 95-96. If you've ever compared cam gears from a 95-96 to any other 4g63, you'll notice the 95-96s don't look like stars, they are filled in alot more because it acts as a trigger plate for the sensor to get its signal.
