20s on an dsm

[1998GSXR]

Will 20"x8.5" +34mm wheels fit on a 1998 dsm. The tire size would be 225/35/20. Or does it need a higher offset. I recently put the same size everything on a 1998 diamante which is same bolt pattern.

I'd imagine it would rub quite a bit.

But 20's???

thats where you'll find your answers not here on dsm tuners. and for the fact 20's will fit yet with no clearance and your turning radius would suffer. and you would come to rubbing allot on the wells.


and if its gonna be a show car. sell the gsx to someone who will use it for real and buy a n/t.

20's on a dsm... I wouldnt even think of putting them on ur dsm. They would probably rub like hell. IMO go with 18's not too small, not too big. Just right

20's belong on SUV's and Show cars.
not DSMs.

will 20s fit? yes. will they rub like a bi***? yes. first off, the biggest rim that "fits" without too much problem are 19x8s and then you want to go anohter .5 wider and another inch around... it will take serious fender rolling and shaving to be able to do that. if your going to run 20s you would almost have to run a 30 tire, not a 35 which means if you go over a penny on the road your rims will fold up like wet toliet paper. so if you are seriously considering this, there is no way it can be a DD, a show only car. so 20s can be done, ive seen it done before. does it look good? IMO no, they look too big for the car - but i guess if you think hummers with 28s are cool and the bigger the better, then why not 20s on our little DSM's

They will bolt up, they will fit, but will you be able to drive it? NO.
You will have some serious rubbing that will leave your fender wells all chromed out.
All that rubbing is dangerous, i'd do it if I really wanted to kill myself. By the way, a pothole can take your life if your rim gets bent.

My brother has 20's on his 3000gt vr-4, if you really want to know I'll try putting them on my car and see how they fit... first I gotta find the wheel lock key though

When up sizing rims it is a good idea to keep the overall size of your set up equal to the overall size of the factory set up that means with 18s or 19s &20s your side wall on your tire gets smaller and your over all diameter or amount of revolutions your tire makes per mile stays the same if you do this you will not have any rubbing issues because your wheels are larger than factory but the side walls of your tires are much smaller than factory that is the proper way to up size wheels. Now will this work on 20" rims you would have to go to a tire shop and find out how many revolutions per mile your factory set up makes and see if they have 20" tires that make the same amount of revolutions per mile however the tires may look like rubber bands wrapped around the wheel. The width of the tire will also be a factor that makes the tires rub. This drammatically effect the accellaration of your car the farther out from the hub centre you place weight the more power it will take to rotate. I have seen 20s with 225/30-20s on a DSM I did not get a chance to discuss fit with the owner so I do not what offset his wheels were though. Hope this helps.

It's from a local club in the area where I live. I think there is also a link on that page if you want to e-mail him and ask about the fitment and tire size. I have seen the car several times. However, it is not a daily driver and I am pretty sure it is trailered to every show.

The wheel ended up being a 20"x8.5" with a +40 offset. I ended up going with a 245/30/20 nitto neo gen. The set looks amazing. The next day I put the Eibach sportline kit with KYB shocks. Turned out to look incredible. They fill up the wheel well nicely. The drop kit made it look so slick. It looks identical to the blue car above (the ride height). Thanks for all the help and pictures will be posted soon. Still waiting for the turboback from rnr racing (its been almost a month).
