i'm planing to upgrade my turbo here and whould like to get some opinions on these two turbos. the tdo6 20g or tdo5 20g and the 50trim. which is more reliable? makes more power? which is better on pump gas? ( usual pros and cons. ) i know that the 20g has proven 11s but the 50 trim i dont really hear much about it on dayly drivers. well please give me some suggestions on these two turbo so i can pick one out.

I don't have much time right now to explain but here's the way I think about it:

20g is oldschool and proven. it's a true bolt on and gives decent spool with huge power

50 trim is a new school turbo and it being proven over and over again as of the late. For the same price as a 20g you can get a 50 trim that is also bolt on and provides a little more airflow and a little less lag ..

but, just do a search.. you'll find your answer

I see full boost (23psi) at 3800rpm's. The car is street driven and absolutely love the set-up. Depending on the quality of your tune and the extensiveness of your headwork you should expect anywhere between 350-400whp on pump.

I suppose I should have mentioned it's a 50trim. But my profile, would have given you an answer as well.

I used the TD06h S20g with the 10cm hot side. Not nearly as much lag as people think and this turbo makes enough power at 16psi for me to run high to mid 12's... In the end I was running 24psi but was unable to clock it. All I can say is mash the gas in 5th and she will spool all the way to redline and past. If you have a stock motor your head and oem cams will be maxed out way before this turbo.

I've run a 20G and a 50 trim but now a 60-1. All great but I have all of the mods and a built motor though I did run the 60-1 on a tired motor with the mds. The 20G is a great turbo but pricey. You can get an RS49T from AGPturbo or $699. plus oil lines and internal gate which works perfectly even on my 60-1. Get the mods first or you will not be happy. I did not look to see what you have for mods so please excuse me. mark

From what i've heard the 50 trim is a better pump gas turbo. I've run a tdo5h20g for the past 5 years and i love it. I have a pretty extensive list of mods and a light car. My best pass to date on this set-up is 11.03 @ 126.79 with a 1.60 60 ft. at Atco raceway. I recently sold the turbo to a friend and picked up the td06h20g along with the bullseye turbine housing. We're hoping to trap near 130 on this set-up. Waiting on my trans build then off to the track. For the price of either of these two turbos you have plenty of other options to explore. Ask lots of questions and stay open minded.

:thumb: i might be headed towards the tdo5 20g conversion too. because i already have a big 16g and ill hate to reroute my pipings and get new oil feed and return lines. so far as i research for the conversion the cheapest place i found was buschur racing they do the mod for $750 with core. very resonable. i think.

so where did you get yours at tort??? and how much was it??

You might want to check the flow numbers on a big 16g versus a 20g. I don't think you're going to find the gains are worth the money. Robert at Forced Performance did a conversion for me years ago. I loved the 5h20g because of it's mad spooling ability. Just changed over to the 6h20g to get me some serious top end to go with my FP 2's. As far as needing the 20g to go low 12's, it just isn't so. With the right mods and some decent driving you can get there on your present turbo.

Big 16g= 36 lbs./min.

Evo.III 16g= 42 lbs./min.

20g= 44lbs./min.

P.S.- Go to DSMtimes.org...you'll see that a numberof cars have gone high 11's and 12.0's on your turbo

the FP Green is also a "50 Trim" FYI. Quite a few turbos fall under that designation.

yeah but they yeld very different hp numbers.. S20g TD06h is what a 550 hp turbo, 50 trim is what 450hp turbo and the fp Green around 500+hp and ths fp3052 is a 550-600 hp turbo. They may all be 50 trims but its still like comparing apples to oranges.

 Okay, I understand why people clip turbine wheels, but does using a clip mean?
I don't think you're confused. Only a clipped tubine.Same thing as clip IMHO! Mark

I meant is his turbine wheel clipped, not " did he use a paper clip? " ROFL

Clips are pretty common on 20g's with TD05h turbine wheels as they become a restriction at higher hp levels.

Its rumored that BR clips their 20g's 25 degrees, other shops clip their 20g's 15-20 degrees.
