Heres the situation i have a Mitsubishi Eclipse 97 Spyder Non-Turbo in my garage collecting dust, the body repairs are way too much...so i bought a 97 Non-Turbo Mitsubishi Eclipse...looking at the two engines i can tell they are diffenent..now what i want to know is since it looks like my 2.0l engine is dying...can i do the swap... i have front end damage to the spyder but i dont think the engine was harmed...so heres the questions

Do a rebuilt engine with my 2.0l? Need est cost?
Do a swap from 2.0l to 2.4l? Need est cost?
Will the trans have to be swapped too?
anything major that will prevent me from doing this swap?
thanks

Here's the problems you will run into with the swap. The set-up it way diffenrent from the sypder set-up because the sypder set-up is very close the 4g63t set-up. The tranies are diffenrent it will cost good bite to have it done. Check the transmission codes and see if they match-up it's located on the the firewall by the battery. Good luck if you decide to do it but I think you need get the 2.0 rebuilt.:thumb:

Like Streetlegends said the 2.4 in the spyder is very simmaler to the gs-t spyder the motor is backwards from the gs. Also the wiring harneses and computer are different. I would check the trans codes but if I recal right they may line up right dont go by that judgment im not sure.

My .02 is for you to build your 2.0 and get a hohn racecraft turbo kit and slap on it with some nitrous and a full motor build. good luck though.

Sorry, but it won't work without a significant amount of cash.

In fact, it won't work for the same reasons one generally cannot swap a 4g63 into a 420A car. The motor mounts are different, the drivetrain is different, the ECU and harness are different, etc. With the money you spend swapping the two, you could buy a new Eclipse GS or even another Spyder.
