I have not seen anywhere that this question is specifically answered, quick help would be greatly appreciated.

I found a 6 month warranty on a cheap (relative to my 1850 estimate to rebuild mine) 2.4L transmission at a salvage yard. The only problem is that I have a 2.0L engine. Will this work well? At all? Any issues?

Thank you very much in advance

I believe they have a different gear ratio at the least, but that doesn't mean I exactly know what that entails...haha still learning. I know more or less that the more power/less you have, the different times you'll need to shift and that's accounted for in the gear ratio, but I'm not sure of the differences, significance, etc

Thanks for the replies black_gst, I appreciate the help. I checked the thread and it's mildly comforting, but I'd still like a little more verification before I dish out more money on a tight budget. Do we have any other experience/knowledge out there with this particular topic?

They said all synchros, all bearings, all but 1 gear, main shaft, counter shaft needed replaced, that it basically needed a new gear drive. I'll let you decipher that. Currently I found a 2.4L trans for $1,050 shipping included. I can't fathom finding one for a couple hundred, any tips on how to do that?

Check e-bay, craigslist, ect. I just typed in "eclipse gst transmission" on e-bay
and found four of 'em for well under a $1,000.

10 years ago, I grenaded 2nd gear on my factory transmission. I found a used one
out of rural Kansas, and figuring that it probably had more highway miles than city, i got it. That transmission is still in my car today. It has about 150,000 from
me, on top the 70,000 it came with.

I never thought it would last this long. I'm not suggesting this is the norm for used
transmissions, more like an exception, but there are some good ones out there.

I am currrently pioneering this swap. I have a 2.4 transmission out of a galant. I am puting into my gst. This is not compleeted yet. And not tested.

So far I have had to re pin the prnd21 switch (had to move around almost all the wires). Since I am using a galant transmission the tcu has to be pinned. If you use a spyder transmission tcu no re-wire required. Use tcu for corisponding transmissio.

Parts need:
2.4 transmission
2.4 tcu
2.4 axles
2.4 flexplate
2.4 transmission brackets.

All I have to do to compleet this is repin the tcu and fix my ofh problem and I will test it some time this weekend or next week.

axles are different and trans is weaker

the weak point is the bearing, its not designed to handle the torque load of the 4g63t.

get a used f5m33, they are usually pretty cheap. the f5m31 just isn't designed to take the power. It might work on a stock car but with a 16g and high boost it won't last long.
