2.4l knock sensor installation?? there is no hole in block?

i'm working on my 2.4l block and notice there is no hole where the knock sensor should be located. has anyone had a block like this? what did you do for the knock sensor?

i was thinking of welding on a nut to the block with the correct thread pitch to hold the sensor. is this a good idea? where should i locate it (in the stock 2.0l location) or is the hole for the sensor located elsewhere on the block? i read that all that was needed to be done is tap out the hole but there is no hole. please help!

btw the block is a 90 from a hyundai sonata

I would imagine their is a buldge where the knock sensor would normally go. That is where you want to drill and tap a new hole. You don't want to weld anything to the block as the heat can warp things. If their is no provision then just find a good stop between #2 & #3 cylinder slightly above half way on the block and just drill a hole and tap it for the knock sensor. Use some good thread sealant if you punch through the block or machine the outside surface a little and use a copper crush washer on the knock sensor to seal up the block. You won't be hurting the integrity of the block enough to make any difference to it's strength.

Well for one you can't weld cast iron unless you got alot of skill. There my be no boss for the KS since the 2.4 was'nt turbocharged. I thought there was a trtead on this some tine ago.......

There's a threaded hole on cylinder #1 if I remember right. I know there was someplace I put my KS on my hyundai g4cs block.

Seems to respond just like I would expect it to, and very similar to the way it did when I had the 2.0 motor.

if you look at the back of the block there is 3 holes all toward number one cylinder.....there is 2 right at the edge of the block one lower one higher,then there is one higher over toward number 2,thats where i put mine,but anyone will work

same here. remember, the KS picks up harmonics so it will hear knock as long as its in the general vicinity of the cylinders.
