Hey guys i was talkin to a friend that said you can get a block out of a certain year of vr4 that is a 2.4 liter and you can just throw all ## 4g63 stuff on it and go. I was wondering if anyone know what year this is? also what other options do i have? stroker kits are really expensive so i was going to try and go a different route. After reading some forums it looks like you can just steal a 4g64 crank and put it in or do the crank and block. will all the 4g63 stuff still bolt on and can u boost it? I've also heard of mini van engines that will put you at a 2.4 plain and if you stroke it 2.6. Any input at all would be helpful and i swear i did spend a good amount of time searching this subject. thanks guys

The 2.4L Block is taller, you can't use the same belts etc...
You can use either a 4G64 or a G4CS.
I'm not positive of which one, correct me if I'm wrong, I think the G4CS doesn't have oil squirters from the factory, and the 4G has extra coolant holes that need to be plugged.

Depending on how much boost you plan on running, you might want to consider rebuilding with stronger internals.

You'd be best off doing a 2.3l stroker - the only parts you *need* to run the 64 crank in the 4g63 block is a set of stroker pistons and a couple hours to do the necessary clearancing

I have actually done a lot of research on this. If you can find a 4G64 from an early Galant VR4 that is a 6-bolt. It is a straight forward swap. If you get a later block that is 7-bolt then you have to plug holes on top. The G4CS is found in early 89-91 Hyundai sonata's. This block is a 6-bolt. You use your 4G63 rods and better pistons with your head and an early galant timing belt. There is a lot of info online. Search here for" 4g64/g4cs answers" and that will give you info. Hope this helps. Travis

thanks guys. so right now i have a 99 so its a sevenbolt would i still be able to use all my shit on the six bolt vr4 engine? im kinda looking for the cheapest way to add some displacement ### after looking at stroker kits im sure if i searched around i could get my hands on a block fairly easy

I wouldn't really consider any swap a "cheap" way of making power. Even if you get a good deal on a block, you would still need to move everything over and pick up the odds and ends that ended up not working with the new block. You also have to keep in mind getting the block prepped, all the gaps checked etc... unless you know how to do that, or someone that does, don't think it'll be real cheap.

ic well check this out eBay Motors: MITSUBISHI EXPO GALANT 4G64 2.4 LITER SHORT BLOCK 92-95 (item 370021146824 end time Apr-07-08 17:08:06 PDT)

pretty much good to go but of course id ###### change out the pistons and rods for something forged and maybe kick up the compression a bit. idk im seriously considering the diy stroker kit with 2.3. if all u have to get is a 2.4 crank and then pistons, rods, and bearings, that doesnt sound like itd be too bad. but what roughly should a machine shop be charging to bore your block out? does this make it a ton weaker or will it matter much ### im hoping on running in the upper 20's on boost soon after the build
