so i bought a 1990 plymouth lazer turbo that had been stroked and bored to a 2.2, head port and polished, oversized valves, stock cams, lifters, springs, gears, 16g turbo, FMIC.

my goal is to finish building it and swap it into my 93. and i have several questions.

1. i have read a couple threads about swaping a 90 dsm into a 91-94 that there are ecm problems? true or not? even if i swap out everything including wiring harness and ecm?

2. it idles at around 2.5-2k till its warmed up and then it drops down to 1k? one of my friends said its normal for a stroker turbo to idle high. true or false? and i also read in a couple threads that you can adjust the IAC, any good walkthroughs on how to check/adjust?

3.i want to finish the top end (since bottom is completely re-done, whole motor less than 25 miles on it) i want to put cams, lifters, and springs, and debating on hks 264's or 272's which one is better for stroker?

Well fyi - DSMs have one head. It is not plural.

The 1990 motor is a freakshow. The ECM is year is specific. The the throttle body is also. Can't really say what else is. I would just keep your n/t as a daily.

if you swap the entire harness and ecu, you obviously have a harness and ecu from a 90 so no problems, get 272s they're better for strokers, what are you tuning with?

Heads? So you have an extra head in the trunk or back seat or what?

The only 4g63 "stroker" besides the 2.3 (100mm stroke from a 2.4L) would be using a crank from the 2.0L diesel (94mm) or the aftermarket 94mm crank. You probably bought it from someone who just doesn't know what they're talking about. Idling high when cold is pretty normal. I would go with some bigger cams than HKS 272's for a stroker.

well 272s are decent, but if i remember correctly in a stroker they act like 264s, i just remembered DSMgraveyard has custom grind 274s or Strictly import motorsports has 275s or just got with 280s with BC springs and retainers

i dont have a dsm link yet and that was another question i was looking into getting one but whats the difference between dsmlink v3 and v3 lite?

Heads? So you have an extra head in the trunk or back seat or what?

and yes i have2 spare heads LOL and thats not what i meant i dont have the best grammar. i fixed it.

so i have 1 person saying i wont have problems swapping and one person saying i will.

and so 272's would be better than 264's for a 2.2?

if you swap EVERYTHING, ECU, harness, motor, trans etc. there shouldnt be problems. well you might have problems with vaccuum lines but you can just delete all your emissions and whatnot... and 272s or bigger

i have the whole car to work with, and the whats different about the trans?

What 2.2 stroker do you have? 150mm rod/92mm crank OR 162mm rod/92mm crank? They have different max rpm limits. Might want to take that into consideration when you make your cam selection.

honestly i am not sure i bought it from a guy goin through a divorce or 800$ i know he used stock crank, he said h beam rods and KD pistons but i think he ment KB because he got them from summit i got the phone number for the machine shop he used i still got to call them because i got some questions about it too.

and so the high idle in open loop is normal? even 2-2.5k?

Well, to the best of my knowledge (and somebody correct me if I'm wrong here) there's no way to build a 2.2L motor with a stock crank. The 2.2 stroker requires a 92mm stroke crankshaft, not the stock 88mm stroke crank. If it has one of the factory 100mm stroke cranks then you have a 2.3L motor. If not, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you've got a standard 2.0L motor that's been bored .5mm (.020") over and there's nothing "stroker" about it.

If he used a stock original crank than it's either a 2.3 stroker or 2.02 (.020 over) which most inexperience people mistake it for a 2.2

You beat me to it Rvlution!

You could go with some K272's from Delta. That's probably the route im going for my 2.2 build. I would also want more details from the person you got it from to know if its an actual 2.2 or just a 2.0 that's 20 over and he thinks its a 2.2 Stroker.

i know its .020 over with a stock crank so.. that means...

sorry for soundin noobish i am new to turbo's and bore/stroke?(maybe not stroke) LOL i originaly just wanted a turbo motor to re-build and swap into my 93 n/t but i jumped at this because its clean, runs, and i can tell the guy had spend some money on it.

this is a list the guy gave me of stuff he had done.

Engine – KD Pistons (.20 over) W I-Beam Rods (All new Seals)
Head Port & Polished w oversized valves
Nopi valves
Timing belt
Timing pully and tensioner napa
Head gasket set fel-pro
ARP head bolts & studs
Xrt stage 3 clutch
New rod and main bearings
New oil pump- napa
New balance shaft belt
New radiator cooling fans
Front mount intercooler w blow off valve
New thermostat and sending unit.
Water pump

also is it normal for it to idle high? bored .020 over?

you deffinetly need to do some more research on your crank. also all car idle high when started until it gets warm then goes down. my scion tc idles at 2k until it gets warm then goes to 1k when its warm

ty i will, and it just doesnt feel right, my 93 will idle around 1.5k open look and 1k closed but the laser idles 2-2.5k open and 1k closed. its just different wondering if it should be that high?

You guys should take a peek at this old post of mine.

The 2.0L diesel 4D68 crank is 93mm. I have the FSM on it if you'd like to see it.
AFAIK, you can't safely fit both a 162mm rod and a 92mm crank in even a 235mm deck block.

i know its .020 over with a stock crank so.. that means...

Go pull a spark plug and insert something thin and longer than 10cm in the hole. Turn the engine over by hand while holding a marker on whatever you stuck in the plug hole. Use a ruler to measure how long the line is that your marker made. If it's 8.8cm you have a 2.0L, if it's 10cm you have a 2.3L.

Sounds like you have a 2.0 bored .20 over. No stroker there. So I'd say that changes your choice of cams...Stick with the hks 264/272 combo or 272/272 depending on what turbo setup you plan on running. This way you wouldnt have to upgrade the valve train as these cam will do just fine on the stock springs. Never hurts to upgrade when youve got the cams out.
