1st timer need advice

Hey guys, everyone is all hyped up. The 1/8 mile track opens tommorow, and everyone is expecting me to be there with my dsm. I have no idea what to expect when i get there. Am i gonna be racing supras and crap? Do i need to run different fuel? Whats the best way to take off? Ive only raced on the streets, this should be good for me. Some body tell me what to expect? Im n e r v o u s :barf: :cry: OMG :confused: :dsm:
 
OK first, Run Racing fuel no higher than 104 octane (OBD II sensors don't like anything higher).. Second, read the drag racing basics thread by Ludacris..since your stock you proly have alot of bottom end torque. do a couple practice launces before you go to the track to get use to where you loose traction.. Remember your boost falls off around 5500 so shift around 6K. And have fun...Good luck.
 
Considering you are stock w/out a boost controller I am not sure how much race fuel would even help you. It definately wouldn't hurt though if you are seeing any type of knock. I disagree on OBDII not liking anything but 104, but since you are stock I would only run 104 unleaded race fuel in your car if you decide to use race gas.

The main point of going to the track is to have fun. I wouldn't worry at all if you are going to win or lose. It is all a part of racing. The biggest problem I see w/ FWD's at the track is they try to launch to hard on tires that are not sticking.
 
Well with it being opening day and all you can believe that everybody is gonna be there. So all the shops are probably gonna have their cars there, the old nova's, and pro cars. But as stated above it's just to have fun. People won't consider you slow if you get beat by some Grumbling Nova. All i ask is you take down anything there that you could take on the street.
And don't be nervous. it's not that serious.

You can run 110 but it is not advised for anyhting OBDII to run anything higher than 104. Or you'll destroy your second O2 sensor...Known fact...

Unless fuel burns differently in Utah...
 
Dude just run premium itll work just fine. hold the rpm at 2.8k-3.2k and slip th clutch out and slowly ease on the throttle once your in 2nd go all out. With these basic ideas youll find what rpms are needed to launch and when to mash it in 2nd. Good luck.

yea i am gonna be goin to the track for my first time soon, i have a 95 tsi awd, decent mods, with dsmlink stutterbox set at 5500 rpms. i've never launched my car, and i dont know whether i should "slip" the clutch, of just pin the gas to the floor and dump the clutch, i've heard to do it both ways from different experianced racers i know. i feel like dumping the clutch is either gonna bog me down, or break sumthin, but slippin the clutch might ruin the clutch, so i dunno:confused: believe me ur not the only one feelin that way:barf: but goodluck:thumb:
 
Slipping the clutch will save your clutch and sometimes your rear end(in 1G 3 bolts). However, I think the advise given above is for getting traction on FWD cars. And of course you dont have that problem.:dsm:
