Im installing my fp71hta turbo with the fp exhaust manifold and this is going to be my first time swapping out turbos and the manifold. Is there anything i need to know about before i start? Like what problems i might encounter? I've heard that the bolts on the exhaust manifold are hard to take off. And also what would i need for this swap besides the basics? Any advice would be appreciated!

Good time grab all new exhaust gaskets and sometimes the oil drain line is a pain in the butt just grab new gaskets for everything and fire it up. Then after you work it up check for leaks and retorque the bolts after a little drive. It's pretty straight forward.

Be careful removing those exhaust manifold nuts! If you're gonna be working on your 90 GSX, and if it's the first time they've came off.. You may break a couple studs if you're not careful! Soak all of them in PB Blaster multiple times at least a day before the job. Oh and also you might want to check out FFWD, they have a nice Exhaust manifold bolt kit especially for the FP manifold and they have very nice gaskets to help make sure you don't have exhaust leaks when it's all done

Anti seize on manifold to turbo bolts and don't forget to prime the turbo. Taking radiator out helps free up a lot of room too.

CRUSH WASHERS!!!!Gaskets everything else is almost self explanitory..

You can prime it by dropping a ounce of oil down into the chra and spinning the wheel by hand.I've only done it that way one time..I usually just put it in and crank the engine..

Ive got all new gaskets needed for this swap, bolt kit from Fp, and a new oil feedline that i bought from Fp as well

Just a little in the threads, and if you have a hand pump, or a gear oil bottle top, squirt a little oil into the oil feed port before you hook up the line

Thanks!

Another way to prime is to pull the fuel injector relay and turn the motor over. This will allow the turbo to get oil through the lines and have lubrication when it starts initially. Some have simply poured oil down the feed line and spin the turbo itself to do the same thing. Either method should work.

easiest way to prime the complete oil system is to unplug power to the coil packs, or remove the efi fuse in the under hood fuse box. crank the engine over for5-7 sec. pause 5 sec, repeat. do this 2-3 times and your full oil system should be primed. reconnect all, fire it up, watch for oil pressure on your gauge then leak check and BOOST ;)
